Hi! everyone,

In this article, I am going to discuss how to have breakthrough results. This automatically triggers our minds that we need to make drastic changes to produce it. That is not wrong at all. Why I say so? It is a lengthy process that not only requires a strong and unlimited mindset, but also a winning formula to deliver that remarkable result. Most of the past proven cases illustrate well this precarious point when you have to act against conventional wisdom. A very good illustration is when people at one time believe that the earth is flat. It needed very strong courage and determination to prove otherwise. However, conventional wisdom is equally important for a strong foundation. That foundation cannot be ignored at all.

1. PICTURE THE BREAKTHROUGH RESULTS

To achieve anything, you must be able to visualise your breakthrough results in your mind first. Iit is crucial to begin with a vision and then use the ends to justify your means. For instance, if you want to fly, you must able to see how to fly and let the vision stick in your mind and heart. Then you will make use of the available means to make the end. Throughout the history of new inventions, we learned that the inventors always use means to facilitate their end. No doubt, the end may become clearer and clearer during the processes. In the flying example, the inventor learned that birds need wings to fly. That’s how the aircraft was made. Over the years, they persistently improve with additional features to make the aircraft fly at higher altitude and faster speed.

An interesting point to note is that every creation must begin from our mind first. Similarly, to achieve breakthrough results, you need to know your goal and picture the end in your mind. In this regard, you need mental and spiritual qualities to overcome the physical defects.

2. BUILD UP APPROPRIATE AND EFFECTIVE APPROACH

To achieve the end result, an appropriate and effective approach is needed to carry out our task. Through your observations and testings, you are able to incorporate the changes, approaches, plans and actions so as to give you your desired results. Through elimination of the wrong paths, you will finally find the correct path leading to breakthrough results. Deep understanding of the means, system and approach are still relevant and equally important because you still need all these existing means to achieve breakthrough results. By now, you should able to see clearly how your approach need to be modified for desired results.

3. CREATIVE THINKING

You also need to think creatively to find new solution. Here, you need to think out of the box to deliver that result. You need to use your whole brain – i.e the logical and the creative parts to work out the plan and action to generate breakthrough results. Therefore, creative thinking demands more than imagination that will plough through logic to seek for new means. In short, you need to stretch your mind to the maximum and play within the stipulated boundaries, instead of working within the box, which can only produce small incremental improvement.

Hence, creative thinking is really required to explore new ideas that could likely produce results. Needless to say that you can’t repeat the same thing to produce different results. Innovative or modified solutions should be used. Change is the answer.

4. APPROPRIATE ACTION

Vision alone is not sufficient. You need to put into action, your brillianct vision and integrate them well with the ultimate objective. Decisons and actions may not guarantee such breakthrough result. You need to stay focused on your ultimate goals, review the mistakes, learn from them and adjust the plan and your next act accordingly, until that remarkable result is achieved. You need a skill that will help you manage in a manner that, constantly produce the best possible results. It is crucial to note that adequate and rightful thinking will produce such results. Open mindset will help you review the feedback objectively and adjust your plan when you have thought more deeply or when things become clearer.

5. POWERFUL AND DYNAMIC MINDSET

Our mindset mould us to have a fixed way of looking at things. So, to have breakthrough results, we need a powerful and dynamic mindset , which has unlimited beliefs. Our mindsets can range from a judgment to a strongly held opinion all the way to a bias or a prejudice. It is not suffice for us to learn or adopt a new mindset for the future, but we need to substitute those limiting ones and grow further.

6. RECHARGE YOURSELF

To stay alert and active, you need time to have adequate and proper rest for your body, mind and soul. This is a skill, rather than an act. To reap maximum benefits, we need to acquire and master this skill. Do not confuse it with idling or inaction. A real relaxation will give us a refreshing feeling. To enhance our understanding, you may draw the same analogy with the performance of batteries after being recharged. This is crucial because your goal need to stay afresh in your mind while you are persistently working towards your end.

7. LEVERAGE

You can’t do it alone. You need a system which can empower you to do far more than your own capability. We need to stay connected with others so that we can function as a united force to carry out that specific task. Human beings need connection with others. We especially need people for psychological and emotional support. Other scientific research has accumulated overwhelming evidence that having strong, supportive relationships is good for our mental and physical health.

Trust the above tips are helpful to you to build your path to healthy living. Remember that health, wellness and beauty are integrated issues and not separated as commonly believes.

Wishing you success,

James Oh

H1N1 vaccine to be included in flu jab

By Judith Tan from Straits Times

THE vaccine against the pandemic H1N1 virus is expected to be incorporated into the seasonal flu jab in about six months.

The World Health Organisation is developing the combination vaccine in time for the Southern Hemisphere’s mid-year winter, now that the virus has dug in.

Communicable Disease Centre director Leo Yee Sin, disclosing this yesterday, noted that the current seasonal flu vaccine is a cocktail of three influenza viruses – the A/H3N2 virus, the B virus and the seasonal A/H1N1 virus. The last-mentioned virus is different from the pandemic H1N1 now prevailing.

The viruses that go into making each seasonal flu vaccine are chosen afresh each year, based on data gathered on the flu strains infecting humans.

Associate Professor Annelies Wilder- Smith of the Traveller’s Screening & Vaccination Clinic at the National University Hospital said it usually takes about six months from the time a virus strikes until a vaccine becomes available.

Those travelling to Europe or North America should take the Northern Hemisphere flu jab between October and March, while those headed south to Australia or New Zealand should have theirs from April to September, she said.

Professor Leo said, however, that scientists are tracking the pandemic H1N1 virus for significant changes, since influenza viruses mutate.

‘The important point is whether the pandemic H1N1 virus will change markedly to something more severe than what we are seeing or to render the vaccine ineffective,’ she said, but added that the current vaccine fends off the virus well.

She was speaking to reporters after a symposium at Tan Tock Seng Hospital yesterday on the handling of the next flu pandemic.

The Health Ministry noted on its website that the number of patients treated at the polyclinics for acute respiratory infections in the Nov 22 to 28 week was 11,853. Just over one in three, or 35 per cent, were down with the H1N1 bug. The figure was down from the preceding week, when 13,654 people were treated.

Already, 802,110 doses of the vaccine have arrived. All one million ordered by the Government will have arrived by Christmas. – ST

Tea is the pathway to healthy living

Happy day to all my dearest friends. Is the above statement true?  To answer it, let us go through the following discussion.

It is an undeniable fact that it is a commodity that is widely traded internationally.

It was used as currency at one time. Today, it is also widely used as a investment tool, like wine, to curb inflation. Tea is second most widely consumed beverage worldwide after water.

Brewing good quality tea requires more than knowledge. It needs skills, patience and meticulous. Everything counts here – be it the process, the quality of tea, the type of water used, utensils, tea pot, cups and many others. So, in order to acquire and master that skill, you need to posses all the above.

“Cha Toa” or rule of tea, inherited from centuries, is still practiced so as to obtain the best out of that particular tea in terms of its fragrance, taste, medicinal value and other benefits. To achieve the best, each and every unwritten rules pertaining to its brewing process need to be observed.

Tea can also be used to destress yourself from work, that is why some people have tea sets readily at their offices.  At the same time, they use it to serve tea to their guests. It is commonly practiced in China and other parts of the world where tea is a popular beverage. To them, taking out some time to sip their favorite tea will give them real relaxation to relieve their minds and souls.

Of course, if time permit, you can even have grand tea ceremony ( Kung Fu tea ceremony) whereby you  demonstrate your martial art skills in preparing the tea. Here, you will not only use all the utensils – which are normally beautifully crafted; prefaced with poems, animals, heroes, values and principles; which are so pleasing to your eyes, minds and souls, but also serve as collectors items. These utensils and other tea accessories of various sizes, shapes and colors made of various type of materials are also be used to serve different types of tea accordingly to its characteristics in term of its nature, size, shape and purpose. As a whole, you will see lots of creative works; the practicability, values and uniqueness of each and every utensil. They are either hand or machine made. These master pieces especially those hand crafted ones are valued very much by its collectors for their rarity and antiquity.

Ambience may also play a significant part if one desires to have the best out of tea. Some may choose to have it at a cool, quiet place where you can find lots of greenery. While others may choose to have it at the hilltop where they can hear the bird singing and water gushing down. Of course this is very idealistic and not everyone may have the time and affinity to be close to nature. Actually to enjoy tea, one can have it in one’s own home.  Should one can afford it, one can drink tea with one’s friends/family in one’s beautifully landscaped garden and the Japanese carp swiming gracefully in the pond. However, if one cannot afford it, one can just set aside a small corner in one’s home for this healthy practice.

The topic of tea can also used as conversation piece among your circle of friends who share this common interest. New ideas, knowledge and new methods of concocting tea as well as the introduction of tea in cooking can be shared. This in turn will foster their frealtionship and divert their attention from gossiping which is not beneficial to everyone.

Apart from this, it is common to see business deals being concluded during the tea session. I would be happy if anyone is willing to share with me their personal experiences/discoveries during their participation in such sessions. Thank you in advance and look forward to hearing from you.

The side effect of tea is that it contains caffeine. However, in ancient days, tea was only affordable to the scholars and high officials of China. Fortunately, today, tea is easily accessible to all levels of society since it is now more affordable as it is being cultivated on a larger scale.

Now, you can see why I have my own personal tea corner, decorated with articles mentioned above.

Thanks for your time and trust it will also lead you to the path of staying healthy, as I do.

Cheers and have a lovely healthy day everyday.

Steps to overcome the major obstacles of staying healthy (Part 2)

September 20, 2009 by admin

By James Oh, Lifestyle Correspondent

In this article, I shall discuss on other major obstacles that prevent you from staying healthy.

3. DISCOURAGEMENT

Similarly, you must have the right perspective and faith  to overcome this obstacle. Otherwise you will not have the courage to take action. Just imagine the time when you started to learn how to walk. If you were discouraged by the number of times you fell, then  you will never be able to walk till now. No doubt, if  you miss the target initially, then you have to learn to adjust and plan your next action. As such, you must clear the distinction between a mistake and a miss.

To encourage yourself to give it a try, you should declare the result a miss rather than a mistake, . However if you classify anything that does not go as planned or anything that misses the target as a mistake rather than a miss, then you are going to be very discouraged. I am sure that  you will agree with me that  the former will encourage you to give it a try, but not the latter. The latter will be holding you back from staying healthy. Therefore to stay healthy, you must have the courage to take appropriate and continual action and these positive actions will maintain your health despite any physical, .mental or spiritual changes.

4. PROBLEM

We must acknowledge  that everyone has problems be it serious or minor. By having faith and the right perspective, we can distinguish problems  from predicaments.

To live healthy, you must take  appropriate action towards controllable factors, and not non-controllable factors. Otherwise, you will be frustrated and angered by their outcomes. Worse still, it will not only tax you unnecessary but also waste your resources and energy. You could otherwise channel them for other more meaningful and  beneficial activities. Therefore, it is imperative to place the right focus on major and significant issue to find its solution. There is a saying that every problem besieges an opportunity.

Staying healthy is a problem to most people, if not everyone .Therefore you need to take action to solve it. Inaction will definitely deteriorate your health. . To stay healthy, you must open up all possibilities and take the appropriate action to address the issue you are currently facing, be it physical, mental or spiritual. It must begin with that acknowledgment; followed by action to overcome the problem. Your belief and action will tell you that it is solvable. What you need to do is to seek for a solution. Sneak out your neck, like the turtle and start moving toward a healthy life.

Treat it as a miss if you did not achieve your pre-set target. Review your result together with your action, learn from it and modify your next action. This is the way you should start working towards your healthy lifestyle. You will be assured of its result. Health  is wealth, therefore it is worth your effort to stay healthy.

5. CHANGE

Before I proceed further, we need also to acknowledge the fact that to progress is to make changes. Otherwise, you shall remain status quo. You cannot have progress and remain unchanged. That is the truth. Change is unavoidable. As a result we also need to make changes so as to make  adequate progress to stay healthy. Otherwise, the dream of staying healthy is just a wish.

To stay healthy, we need to take pro-active action to make the adequate progress to compensate for the physical deterioration due to aging and other adverse factors. But do not get me wrong to say that aging will bring deterioration to you. It depends on the individual and how effectiveness he maintains his health.

To make the changes, it will cost you something, Otherwise there is not any real change. Similarly, it is also true that without any real change, there will not be any growth, so to speak..So, to stay healthy, there must be  real growth either physically, mentally or spiritually. In other words, there must be real growth when you sum up the changes in all these aspects that have taken place..

Ironically, people refuse to change but want improvement at the same time. That is the main reason why staying healthy can only become a wish to most people. Inappropriate or unbalanced action taken to address each and every aspect of individual life is also another main contributor to this fact.

6. COMPLACENCY

Most of the time, people feel comfortable when they achieve a small incremental improvement, and not steep  improvement. However, the rapidly changing world is demanding more than the people can deliver. Hence it has created unnecessary competition, stress and challenges which have serious impact on our health and happiness.

As such, improvement / advancement in all areas is very much sought after by any individual, who does not hold himself complacent with his status quo but at the same time continue to stay healthy. By doing so, he will not to pursue the highest level of health and not compromise anything less.

In today’s complicated and competitive world, we are asserting ourselves to handle a formidable amount of stress. In real life, we cannot run away frustration, disappointment, anger or other adverse emotions. Hence, we need to make changes so that we can cope well, if not better, with this stressful environment.

Therefore, adequate or appropriate measures/actions need to be taken to address this aspect.

7. LACK OF ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE

To stay healthy is a process. Therefore, it needs to be continuous reviewed to determine whether the problem you are working on in is the the right and appropriate one. You have to set your priority right, act and think strategically, review and act promptly, learn and grow. In this manner, you will then be able to maintain the wellness of your health.

Never be tempted to take short cut solution.

I know it is easier said than done. Here, you need lots of practice, positive attitude and a strong mind set to avoid such temptations. In this connection, you need to use your inner peace, which surpasses all understanding to guard your heart and mind. Otherwise, you will be fighting in vain.

Here, it shows that you need appropriate and adequate knowledge to maintain the wellness of your heart. Therefore, having the right knowledge is a must. Learning is a long process that is constantly changing and updating. Appropriate time is also needed to keep abreast of the latest development in areas relating to the wellness of health.

Thanks for your time and looking forward to seeing you again. So stay tune and realign your focus appropriately to the significant and material issue so as to stay healthy. HEALTH IS WEALTH.

Wishing you health and happiness.
