Slovak YOG Ambassador slams Singapore’s YOG venues of “school standard” only

In another blow to the pride of the embattled PAP, a YOG Ambassador from Slovakia had lashed out at Singapore for having “school standard” venues for the YOG:

yogcriticize

Ms. Danka Bartekova is one of the 30 selected YOG Ambassadors from Slovakia; her job like any other ambassadors are to promote YOG.

When interviewed by Slovak media, she said:

“I’ve heard that some of the athletic fields in Singapore are no better than the standard school facilities, nothing special. Maybe Slovakia does have the potential to organise YOG, but I cannot imagine that our country would be able to accommodate the thousands of athletes and officials that would come to the games. That would require huge investments by any host country.”

She also pour scorn on Singapore spending its way to beat Moscow in organizing the inaugural YOG.

Singapore knows that they cannot organise and hold a “Big” Olympics, so they invested a lot of money to hold a “small” Olympics instead,” she added.

Her unusual outburst against the YOG is likely to exert pressure on the PAP which is facing a massive public backlash over the YOG exceeding its initial budget by more than two times to a whooping $387 million dollars.

An embarrassed PAP Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Youth, Community and Sports Teo Ser Luck was forced to issue a public rebuttal of Ms Danka’s accusations.

He claimed that the venues in Singapore used for the YOG have all been inspected by the International Olympic Committee whose members have expressed “confidence” in the facilities.

HAHAHA… a young girl put the whole YOG PAP fiasco to shame! nanny-nanny-poo-poo!

  • eaglefly:

the lady is hard hitting, but correct in what she said.

you need to relook at yourself and laugh at yourself….

its ok, we learn as we go along but keep cost down , don’t bankrupt the island for your learning curve, keep it down , please…

    dafy as daft comes.

  • $100+ a person:

YOG exceeding its initial budget by more than two times to a whooping $387 million dollars.

that’s more than $100 per Singaporean, even if we didn’t buy tickets.

    ouch?

  • ASAP:

    what a bitch

  • A Ang:

    Ms Bartekova,

You should not have hit the host like that. That is undiplomatic. Instead you should be thanking the host for providing you everything from lodging, food, transport NOT TO MENTION CONDOM for you to satisfy your bed time stories. Be fair to them as well.

    Adrian

  • Lim:

The $387 Million should be spent on the poor, including an “ah mah” at the Peoples Park Market eating left overs on the table.

Telok Ayer MP should go and see how to help the poor “ah mah” sitting forlornly at one of the tables and moving from table to table as soon as some patrons have finish their meals to ‘clean up leftovers’.

She could be your or my mother. My wife never fails to press a $1 coin on her palms each time she sees her. So what do you say MP for Telok Ayer, your branch office is just overlooking the market and food centre.

  • Teo Sir Fluck:

Till now, there is still NO concise breakdown on how the whopping $387 is being spent and how on earth did the actual spending exceeded by more than 4 times from the initial estimates ??

It is clearly an indication of incompetencies and leads to unecessary speculation of “unethical” practices, e.g. awarding of contracts at escalated amt to cronies & kaki companies.

Haven’t our leaders already assured all citizens that their $MILLIONS salaries is necessary to abate “corruptive inclinations” ?

  • ku ku bert:

so who is paying for the food, laundry, accommodation, transportation, public inconveniences, wastages etc for the 5000 or so young participants??

  • andrew leung:

PAP must sue her for defamation and bankrupt her.

  • cy:

she hit the nail on the head- since the atheletes are school-going kids, it’s right that venues are of school standard.

unless your athletes are world class, then singapore should have world class venues instead.

  • achtung:

she has big c*nt.let’s invite her to Geylang for physical education

  • Pissed:

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!…………………….

  • jaywalker:

The YOG is a big mistake.

  • Serious Thots:

YOG will not bring in the big bucks. At the most it will generate some interest. Is this event of significant benefit to Singapore?

We will spend $387 million and to be criticized thus would be rubbing salt to open wounds. Ms. Danka Bartekova’s job is to promote YOG. What she said may be the truth and even then, the world YOG organization must chastise her for her remarks and maybe even remove her from her position. It is like biting the hands that feed you. Mr. Ng Ser Miang should see to that.

But all the same, I was not for the YOG. It would be better if we hosted the ASEAN Games instead.

LHL screwed up here big time in the YOG. He was hoping that in election year, this would be another grand event to promote the PAP. Together with the National Day Parade, the emperor LKY and his family will be aggrandized.

For TR reader’s information, difficult times are coming. England’s PM, David Cameron has asked UK’s Civil Service to see if they can survive a 40% cut in funding. What is it telling us? To throw away S$387 million frivolously in the YOG games to be criticize???

  • randomnessinmind:

Awwww……I’m very surprised this was reported in the papers. What are they thinking?

  • puck 'and puck condoms:

luckily, teo ser luck skip geylang red light as one of the venue.
with free condoms, now the YOG seems more like a YOUTH ORGY GAMES.

  • Ray:

She should join YPAP, at least she talks sense, unlike our new YPAP member cum citizen from India, Sinha Shekhar.

  • Supersasha:

    She did not “pour scorn”.
She called a spade a spade. Told it as it is.
Could she have been more diplomatic? Sure. But why should she?
    But isn’t diplomatic being untruthful?
The truth shall set us free. I am so glad that she’s so candid in her review.
    Please, No more BS!

  • Anti Foreigners:

    Spot On!

Singapore Govt only knows how to use money to cover their incapability yet not even achieving the minimum standard after so much money being spent.

Our standard is only to the level of laundry and condom to impress people in the news?

    Such a disgrace.

  • Tai Shang Lao Jun:

The YOG is no big deal for us Singaporeans, it is almost a non event.
Only the Govt is making a lot of hula hula noise, and we are not happy with the huge amount of money spent on promoting an event that is minuscle in size and importance, and we are proven righr with criticism by one of the international YOG ambasadors. If the venues are only school standard, then where is the money spent on. Is it to build a stadium free of charge for Jamaica, hoping the Jamaicans could help to promote the event. We call this YUAN WANG expenditure, all on taxpayers’ money.

  • smallfly:

Well, self praise is no praise!

Let’s witness how successful will the YOG be with such an astronomical expenses which have exceeded the original budget by an equally astronomical times!

With this types of expenses, if the YOG is not a success then TSL should bequeath his position for posterity and recluse to seclusion for self-introspection on profusely wasting Taxpayers’ valuable money.

With this bunch of idiotic million-dollar devourers, the state fortune will dissipate quickly and nothing will be left behind for future off-springs!

Good luck to all born and bred Singaporeans for having close to nothing left for their off-springs! Merry, merry, merry…… YOG! Sad, sad, sad…….. Singaporeans!

  • lim:

Well, pap cannot be “slapped” by singaporeans, since the main stream media will never publish any negative views, so it needs some foreigners, whose countries’ media are not restricted in anyway, to tell the truth..

  • No Standard:

I think she is correct to state that. Some of the sports venues no standard. Only the laundry with RFID technology, what acquired Beijing laundry tracking, got some standard. We think too much $$ commercial…. Where is the sports facilities? NUS/NTU facilities so so only….

  • AngryDog:

Really? Wow… I loved this ambassador frank attitude! I have not seen the facilities and not in position to judge but a comment from Slovakian definitely carries alot of weight especially when she has seen it and with the mindset to compare what her country can offers and her perception of an supposingly international level meet.

Looks our over the budget of $310 millions (?) is not justify at all! If it is all praise, I bet other will only question why the exceed but with such remarks from Ms. Danka Bartekova, many will question how come it exceeds, why and where the money goes, and if there are any legistration to oversee the spending of YOG commitee or any NKF saga?

  • HAYOO!:

    Jealous, much?

I can’t believe TR is paying so much attention to the opinion of the youth than the IOC.

No thanks to some Singaporeans (coughtemasekreviewcough) who are such WET BLANKETS and write articles to downplay the YOG as well.

One of the many reasons of why YOG is held in Singapore is to give smaller countries the opportunity to hold international event. And YOG is to provide youths from smaller countries with the opportunity to win Olympic medals. Moreover, Russia is hosting / hosted other events haven’t they?

What Teo Ser Luck said is true. It has met IOC standards. I don’t think he was forced to give a public rebuttal. But rather, he RESPONDED with a media statement.

Singapore doesn’t live to please everyone internationally anyway.

Gosh Temasek Review. What are you becoming into? I miss the old you :)

    Time to move on!

  • We deserve it:

Honestly, she is quite right, we are not big like Moscow, we cannot build Olympic sized stadiums and expect 10000s of crowd. We probably lobbied behind the scenes and a lot of marketing material to hoodwink those judges to give us the deal.

We have a few mickey mouses forced by schools or civil agencies to attend. In the first place, Singapore was never a real sports country, and we should not have done this.

She wasnt wrong in her assessment.

  • Samfoo:

Any surprise? What is all that money being used for anyway?

  • Dog-Bite-Dog:

Same level as those of schools?
No problem, afterall this is just a fun telematch for school kids.

  • Disappointed:

Spend at least 200 million and u get this kinda facilities??!?Malu lah!!

  • stormlab:

Low standard is understandable…but at an over budget price? something is wrong~ monies may have gone into the wrong pockets~

  • haha:

Can’t help but to feel happy and gloat at PAP’s failure. So what if the YOG venues meet the requirements? They are probably the BARE requirements.

  • 2012:

She has forgotten why she’s here… ambassador… to promote YOG. If she can’t even differentiate her objective to be here from her personal value. Please send her back… believe me, she will not be present during the YOG Opening.

International Olympic Committee have to do something to someone so… childish in her personal perspective.

Is she doing what she is chosen to do???
“Ms. Danka Bartekova is one of the 30 selected YOG Ambassadors from Slovakia; her job like any other ambassadors are to promote YOG.”

now,YOG loooks like Youths Open-legs Games with the free condoms.

maybe some innocent ones will think it’s for keeping their gold medals? LOL!

  • Well…

At least she called a spade a spade…

And no BSing there from her.

How many PAP ministers or their flunkies can do that?

    How many?

She at least still have her conscience and self respect. At least for that we should honestly respect her for stating the obvious and the hidden.

    Good day all.

  • A FAIR HUMAN:

A True Singaporean sounds like a pap dog.
come on ,grow up yourself,as ambassador of YOG,she is entitled to her fair observations and opinions and her duty is to YOG not to singapore but to the whole world. This is not your S league, this is world league.

let’s not cover up for the haughty miws’ mistakes, they don’t exactly represent singapore or singaporeans.
if they do,they would not have called us daft and take away our jobs and give to foreigners.

A True Singaporean, you are just being bias, and please,be more broad-minded instead of just merely thinking that all that our miws ever do are always good.
time to grow up and tiem to learn form past mistakes.

  • Luke:

I’m just a layman … but I know if every dollar we spent generates 3 dollars, its a good business. As such, lets put all our focus and efforts on the positive side of this event. After-all we have already invested this amount money and cannot reverse the situation. Therefore I truely hope that we can focus our energy to make this event a success, unless you want all our money to go down the drain … ouuch … it is painful you know.

  • CrazyBum:

“unless you want all our money to go down the drain … ouuch … it is painful you know.”

You mean like those money losses made by Temasick and GIC? We are numb already lah

Does she know about the British writer?
Hmmm.. I wonder what she will have to say about that?

  • dumb butt:

This is some funny shit man. Special Olympics are even more popular the YOG……go figure.

  • Kerith Ravine:

    Dear TR Readers,

Although I don’t like the way Ms. Danka Bartekova attacked our country, I think the PAP deserves it.

The PAP would rather spend S$387 million on taking care of foreigners and showing off to the world they can organize a big event like YOG than taking care of our own Singaporeans.

This large sum of money could have gone into social programs for the underprivileged. It is a good thing that the PAP’s plan has backfired.

However lets be careful at the same time. It might be part of the PAP’s plan to get her to attack Singapore so that there is greater comradeship amongst Singaporeans just before the GE. The PAP may be trying to trick us into becoming patriotic and hence vote them into power in this coming GE.

    KR

  • PR CITIZEN:

What do you expect in a land full of dogs??? Look at the national stadium, it is a joke. The government should have spend another $200 million to bulid another stadium, instead now YOG atheltes and officals are going to laugh at the facilites that Singapore has.

  • theAnonymous:

  • Luke:

I’m sure we will reap some good returns if we all move in the same directions and work together. Nvm whether they are PAP or not, or who to vote in next GE, or we should have done something better with the money or somebody’s blunt comments… we are just operating like a company, if it close down … we all will be out of job again. Lets worry about the GE later and I dont believe this event is a postive marker for GE … economy growth, good employment and more than enough to spend, is what matters in the GE. Like South Africa, they have hosted the WC successfully with many skeptism, how now how … go back to the same one …

  • To PR CITIZEN: July 28, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Exuse me…firstly, this land is filled with people plus of cause dogs too the animal kind and not the people kind…if by any chance u are infering this whole place is filled up with people = type of “dogs”….you are implying everyone [Plus PAP, FT & FW] including you yourself as a “dog” too in Singapore la la land.

Secondly, which national stadium are you talking about…the temporary wayang one on the singapore river or the other real one [the iconic wunderbar national stadium...she maybe old but she is still grand and will always remain close to singaporeans heart for all the good memories created there in the past, sad to see her go] which is still pending to be demolished and replaced with a new one.

Finally, i agreed with you here about that 200 – 300 plus millions…they could have re-conditioned or re-built the grand dame national stadium and bring it to 21st century standards thus giving her a real lease of life and new memories to re-ignite…but too bad a couple of the MIW has “zero” imagination or are still in diapers heavily dependent on old man LKY insights/advice/

Anyway, the YOG offcials and sports folks will just have to make do…since this is the best Mr. Viva and Mr. Teo Suay Luck can do with 300 – 400 millions plus of taxpayers monies…can’t blame Mr. Viva and Mr. Teo here…cos they couldn’t get billions more of tax payers monies…else the facilities and venues will be of gold plated standard and the highest and brightest in the world….so unlucky for Mr. Teo Suay Luck and Mr. Viva Bala…but lucky for PAP and the people of singapore.

Else more leeching of taxpayer monies for the sake of face and to line the pockets of self serving cronies…

What is the point of that in the end? For nothing but methane gas bellowing out into the atmosphere.

    Nuts.

  • a cynical ploy:

TR readers, this is a cynical ploy by the PAP to tap on the latent ‘patriotism’ in the HDB heartlands, especially among the Singapore Chinese voters. That’s why it was reported in the Chinese press.

    Dear TR readers,
I can understand your support and frustration and to boycott this so call YOG, is only a stage show in Singapore and there is no such thing as YOG…an attempt to be ’small’country look ‘big’ but the real suckers are the Singapore people having to pay from their pocket and is the FIRST TIME i heard that if you block or obstruct traffic, you will be fine! Is really a shit joke!!& show how the regime is getting worst then Burma, imagine this to happen in Greece, or even France or EU countries?!NO WAY!!only lame & pathetic Singaporean allow such things to happen to their life and yes, boycott indeed because if your stadium is meant for ‘children’play, so be it, and when i see in this blog how many YPAP try to defend it, is so pathetic! if is for sure a success, why the need to fine for the so call obstructing and using laws like such to bully your very own citizens! this imply besides a regime, you Singaporean are worst of in education, culture and manner then your counterparts in Indonesia, Malaysia and even Thailand…is so so pathetic!
last but not the least, i can feel for you Singaporeans because not only your life is screwed, your children life is screw and even if you are re born into this land, more screwing coming to your lives!

Spend almost $400million and produce sub standard stadiums???? something must have gone very wrong with the spending. Probably, after this YOG, singapore will produce another batch of new millionaires who may be linked to one another soon.

  • beenthereseenit:

YOG is not a huge event and therefore unlikely would generate $3 for every dollar spent. Sadly, this event is not going to be have good returns except showcase Singapore’s ability (or failure) at organising international sporting events. It’s a make or break of the Singapore brand rather than fattening the coffers. In my opinion, the over $300 million spent is money down the drain because the Singapore brand is more stinky than glorious what with the arrest of the British writer, its mandatory death sentences, it’s lack of free press, it’s kangaroo courts…the list goes on. Think the international media would actually laud us over a small YOG in light of everything else?

To those gullible fools who think YOG is taken seriously by the rest of the world – just go to the home page of ANY of the respected international news/newpaper websites (I don’t think you’re that dumb that u need me to tell u what they are!) and do a search for “youth olympic games” and you’ll most likely find: “No Results”!!! :)

Yes, the rest of the world does not give a damn about YOG…. it was even reported by SPH (Singapore Propaganda House) newspapers that e.g. USA sees YOG as only a “friendly competition” (aka not a serious competitive event at all), so they will be sending their swimming team to some regional event instead! I remember reading similar stories about other nations not bothering to send a strong contingent too… slap PAP’s face! :)

In this bubble called Singapore, PAP and their propaganda machine can make it seem that YOG is a big event, but anyone with internet access knows that the rest of the world has never even heard of it!

    Wake up, PAP bootlickers!

  • Pink:

Hahaha she think Youth Olympic is the same as Olympic meh? If she wants better facilities, ask her to go get lost and join Olympic instead.

  • Pink:

Spent so much $$$ on foreigners got no use, they also don’t know how to appreciate LOL. PAP should spend those $$$ on the old and needy Singaporeans, at least they know how to be grateful.

  • lost?:

you mean nobody told her our upgraded stadium is in jamaica? think she inspected wrong place lah.

but seriusly anyone know how much monetary reward if a kid win gold medal at yog? wonder if it’s part of 387m?

  • Sportsman 3802:

Will Usain Bolt be running? Any big names coming? Anything exciting to watch ah?

  • Sinkapoor Joke:

A Big Flop in the making …………….hahahaha !!!

  • Honest Opinion:

Ms. Danka Bartekova remarks appears to be what she heard and is passing on. What she said is what she heard about the host country and nothing negative towards YOG. In all fairness, she’s still doing her job in promoting YOG, maybe not in the way that the Pappies want.
    YOG != SG

  • Speaking:

    Her facebook link @ http://www.facebook.com/danka.bartekova

I just sent her a message to praise her for saying the truth. She did a very very very good job!

To Teo Ser Luck: Truth hurts. Ouch! You spent close to $400 million to build primary school standard sport facilities. EPIC FAIL!

  • PAP Sucks:

We are an island of DOGS and THIRD CLASS CITIZENS who can only get to host YOG and never anything bigger like the real Olympics.

What else do you expect from this island of DOGS and THIRD CLASS CITIZENS?

Heck…the island is not even ours — it belong to the old man.

  • PAP Sucks:

Well, how exactly is the young lady undiplomatic?

She is simply calling a spade a spade.

Look around and see what you have locally — Jack Lin — who called Singaporeans THIRD CLASS CITIZENS and Sinha, who called Singaporeans DOGS.

$300 million is NOT a lot of money. Hell, if you dock the PAP ministers’ pay, you can recoup that in a year or two, easily, with spare change.

At least that money was used to buy condoms and did not vanish into THIN AIR — unlike what happened to the BILLIONS lost by the old man’s little boy’s man-like wife.

“… i regret coming to Singapore & be Singapore pple and yes,… is time for me to say ‘goodbye’…’.

You are not alone n coming to SIN and taking up the citizenship (I assume that you have). Singapore is a place only for the rich. It is no place for the average working person and family. I have many friends who had regretted their decisions in moving to SIN. Those who are able too have either return to their homw countries or elsewhere.

Seriously, time to return home. Cheers!

  • Bai Hu:

Why is she making these unsubstantiated statements? No matter what really happens, the girl please get her facts right & ready before making this kind of sweeping statements. By the way, i am not for or against the YOG or anything, just voicing out my opinion on her actions.

  • peantus:

guys.. why the big hoo-ha? 400 million is not even peanuts to the PAP.

  • ALTRUISTICS:

I applaud her for the clear and sharp remarks as all the while Sinkies are being fed news that are state vetted. With all the million dollar fed ministers,we can only expect such results as they are never really tested before.Getting into parliament is as easy as eating a plate of rice and how can such people have the calibre without having to “really fight for their positions.” We’re indeed fortunate that lately we can sense signs of impending demise of this regime. This is a DIVINITY given chance to us and we should be truly grateful.

  • uh huh:

seriously im quite curious what prompted her to make this remarks, as she says “I’ve HEARD that some of the athletic fields…”

have she seen the venues herself? is she being snobbish?

  • PAP Sucks:

a stupid YOG event got PAP all excited.

Yes, Singapore is indeed the centre of the world stage.

YOG is bigger than World Cup, Olympics, G8, G20.

    PAP said so.

  • [T][O][R][A][I]:

Dun be like tis lah. We were told tat we r too serious liao … so occassionally spend big money to amuse our international friends … the most we work harder to earn back … also tis is the intention of our garment wat … so tat we have lesser time on politics.

  • Seow:

Not surprising that our YOG venues are of school standards only; we cannot even spend money to make a new National stadium so can we expect? Anyway Singapore is a place where no one has accountability; so what if we spend $387million on school standard olympics games? No one is to be blamed.

  • [T][O][R][A][I]:

    To Seow.

You R Wrong … only lower people are accountable, eg. Mas Selamat’s case, Charity/donation frauds etc …

  • maxonlife:

Well, her remarks proved that she is still ang moh thinking and not even close to asian humility.

I hope it is only her own personal remarks.

Years from now, when some of the winning YOG participants won gold medals in the Olympics….

They will remember Singapore, the fun experiences they had in competiting fully concentrated, with us providing them the added security in this year YOG.

  • Ah Soon San:

True or not….. its a very bitchy and undiplomatic thing to say.

So the whole world is actually to come here and just laugh at us issit?

  • PAP Sucks:

At least she called a spade a spade and did not call Singaporeans DOGS or THIRD CLASS CITIZENS.

Credit to hear for calling out PAP on the poor facilities.

  • RDB:

YO! YOG is “YO Games” at pappie’s “BetterER BestereREST”! “Rest in peace” Teo Ser Luck, you luck will BE running out after YOG like Jack Lin’s is now after Facebook. Joo Chiat MP Chan Soo Chen too for isolating Jack’s insults of Singaporean as 3rd class as not of YPAP or PAP.

Twisted minds are corrupted minds. And “adulterated” minds of LKY’s Mind Boggling quotes “Repression, Sir is a habit that grows. I am told it is like making love – it is always easier the second time! The first time there may be pangs of conscience, a sense of guilt. But once embarked on this course with constant repetition you get more and more brazen in the attack. ….” – Lee Kuan Yew as an opposition PAP member speaking to David Marshall, Singapore Legislative Assembly, Debates, 4 October 1956.

Wasn’t he MOST VIVIDLY talking of AND referring to ILLICIT SEX!!!!! What a guy!!!!! No wonder he is a total atheist and could “commit” sedition when he once said on CNA “I don’t believe either the Quran or the bible has the last word about life”! YO! Wore betide you too you followers of his!

  • Mani the Parrot:

The unofficial Youth Olympic Games (YOG) featuring athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 is an international multi-sport event held every four years as introduced by the official International Olympic Committee.
Since the youthful athletes are of school age, having standard school facilities for the YOG should suffice.
From our tax payers monies, our PAP regime had already spent nearly $400 million dollars, inclusive of sponsoring free condoms in organising the event and that will also suffice.

  • Arbo:

    Cheers to Slovak!!!

  • OS:

Looks like all of PAP’s wet dreams are crumbling at the same time.

All the school children are told to pester their parents to bring them to YOG!

  • Kerith Ravine:

YOG is going to be a huge success

  • anonymous:

When YOG is in progress, I would NOT be using public transport except taxi. I must have regard for personal safety. Recent ignominies of ridiculous security lapses involving MRT must give rise to serious concerns.

  • Money Faced PAP:

It must be a big slap in the face for PAP to wake them up from their fake honour !

  • lee pang sai:

so malu leh … what happen to our “elites” ? only good in talk cock sing song ? i’m more than happy to see YOG fail becoz vivain refused to give extra $50 to help our poor senior citizens .

  • me me me:

if you have actually read the newspapers, you would know that a lot of time and effort(and money)has been put into renovating the Marina Bay Floating Platform for the opening and closing ceremony. So that’s probably where part of the money has been going. Although i can’t say for sure that the YOG would be a successful one (since nobody, including Singaporeans and the rest of the world doesn’t care about it), can’t you guys(and girls) at least show some respect?! PAP has put in a lot of effort into planning the YOG! It is an honour for Singapore to host the first ever YOG.

  • Danka Barteková:

Dear author of this article and all the readers,
I am taking the opportunity to say my statement about the article which was written and published in the Singapore local newspapers. As I wasn´t aware the article was going to be written and nobody asked for my statement before publishing it, I am very disappointed I have found it on the internet only after few of my friends have noticed me.
First of all, I would like to explain my statement in the context it was used originally. I didn´t mean at any way critisize or blame the orginizing committee for the sport venues. Answering the question weather Slovakia could place a bid to organize the youth olympic games itself, I responded that the venues are normally used and are on a normal standard school level, nothing special should have been built to host such an event. No new halls, no new stadiums or tracks should have been built. That means our country could potentially have sport capacities to host such an event, but we would probably have problems with other facilities. I understand that this statement could be used as a critical statemetn to the Singapore sport venues, but If you read it in the context it was originally used, you would understand that it was just a speculation about Slovakia´s possibility to host the games.
As for my comments to the spending of the budget, my answer was regarded to the fact that Singapore cheers for the olympic games and they are preparing an unforgettable event. Not any way of critisizing the budget, I was displaying how hard the organizing committee works, how much effort (and of course money) they put so that Singapore´s first Youth Olympic Games are a great and well-prepared event.
I am very sorry that my comments were used in the negative way and looked like blaming the organizing committee, so that I am linking the original article from where they were actually used: http://spectator.sme.sk/articles/view/39665/9/ideals_are_high_for_first_youth_olympic_games.html
Please give it a chance and make your opinion yourselves.
    Danka Bartekova
    Young Ambassador for Slovakia

We were not ready to Host Asian Games or Commonwealth Games,we decline SEA Games owing to facilities and yet we bid for an International Game a first timer for the WOrLD to see and we are going to FCUCKED it UP GOOD & PROPER for the WHOLE WORLD to laugh at US and from a BEACON of PROSPERITY in ASEAN to the DUNCE of ASEAN.

GCT should be squirming in his seat for predicting a SWISS STANDARD, it should DUNCE STANDARD by the year 2010

  • Luke:

    Dear Danka,

It not your fault that have caused such a stir, as I can see you have expressed yourself truly and honestly.

You must understand that the problem lies with the issues of matter which was not being handled appropriately; particularly in time where economies eg. huge economy like in the US is still pretty uncertain.

To spend this huge amount of money to host a sport event instead of helping our people during this difficult and uncertain period was viewed as inappropriate.

In addition, the respective committee had reported that they have exceeded the budget by more than 2-3 fold giving unacceptable excuses and based on the calibre of the people that being placed into organising such event, it should not have happened.

These are taxpayers’ money and therefore everyone is concerned over how they spend the money. Unfortunately no details were given to why approval was given to continue and exactly who and how they spend the money.

Of course, as usual, alot of us will rub in the political issues which always remain in our country.

  • MenInBlue:

quite a number of YOG venues are held in schools…. so what standard do u expect? She’s right in a way…

  • BigHead:

Simple saying like if the head is not that big don’t wear so big a hat. Simple thing like that even the multi million dollar elites can’t understand. Hat too big slip down cover your eyes and then its a case of the blind leading the blind in Singapore.

  • shabel:

Whatever it is, commenters here should stop referring to people with differing views as “PAP dogs” or the like. Very narrow-minded.

  • Young PAP:

So is the pride proportional to the extent of screw-up? The bigger the costs over-run i.e. the more expensive that adventure became, the bigger the prize and praise for the monumental failure?

  • sam selamat:

I think the PAP must sue her for criminal defamation to safeguard the integrity of the ministers in charge. CRIMINAL DEFAMATION!!!

  • a:

I found this page since I’m reading on TR recently. so i want ask a few questions for those who said the ambassador is unjustified.

firstly, if you say its a youth olympic games and a normal facility will suffice. fine. the more the government should explain why and how did they spend the $400mil on? food? I think all of us know whats the situation about the volunteers food right now. half a month left. almost 2 months went by as the volunteers ate those food that wont even last for an hr standing under a blistering sun practising (try it yourself before you retort. go under the sun at 1pm. dance and jump around for at least an 1hr. eat your breakfast at around 6am. eat that kind of food at 12pm before you reply). :)

secondly, the MP say that IOC agrees that the facility meets the olympic standard. go to toa payoh stadium or swimming complex. see for youself. is there even any change before the olympics compared to now other than that barricade there and some containers lying around. so you trying to say. IOC say yes means yes. no need to further improve. IOC can say no? then cancel the whole YOG2010 just because the facility wasnt good?

and typical singaporeans. its based on hear-say. MP say it you believe. if I as a normal singaporean say it will you believe?

thirdly, sports hub was a failure. i remember the news report last year? (correct me. i forgot whens the report) they building the sports hub in preparation of YOG. fine. go to that location and find a sports hub there. take a photo and post it in the internet to prove to me that the money spent on building the sports hub was worth it.

for my own opinion? i don’t think that singapore is even prepared to hold even a small olympic ie. the YOG. do we have the proper infrastructure? do we have the experience? ok i can expect some will start mentioning AYG here. u comparing asean competition vs global international competition. doesn’t seems to make sense to me. and AYG they live in HOTELS. global all live in NTU HOSTEL.

and another thing is the 2 years preparation. so you are saying. government doesn’t know about the 2 years preparation time when they are bidding for the YOG? u know. and bid. then get prepared to put in a massive amount of effort to host it successfully. not do it halfway through like what’s currently happening right now! you are just trying to let the world know that we just want to host the YOG to show off that we are able to host one (which end up to be so crapped up)?

yes feel free to flame me if you find that im writing unjustified ideas too :) BUT please prove to me with evidences. and im a volunteer inside. i find it fun. but its not proper-planned. i went to jurong east stadium and my friend is at toa payoh.

think about it yourself before you continue flaming this youth ambassador.

    cheers

  • I think alot of the money is spent on the maxi cabs, it’s generally a waste, I don’t even see the much more successful Beijing Olympics doing that, at most they have shuttle bus. The airtight security also wasted alot of the monies, engaging ahd not even preventing a single fly to enter, thats just prolly a waste of manpower. And I think alot of the money are also spend on outsouring for projects work, generally the expenditure shouldn’t even be high since most of the venues are already available

  • KC:

“I cannot imagine that our country would be able to accommodate the thousands of athletes and officials that would come to the games.”

Sounds more like praise than criticism to me. She said she couldn’t imagine that Slovakia would be able to do something… which we HAVE done.

“Singapore knows that they cannot organise and hold a “Big” Olympics, so they invested a lot of money to hold a “small” Olympics instead,”

How is that even an insult? That’s the truth! I seem to remember that Our government and the IOC committee said that as well. People are already complaining about the YoG lanes. Can you imagine what would happen if 11000 athletes and even more personnel came here? It’d be an even bigger nightmare for everyone involved.

  • Terrific write-up, I share the same views. I wonder why this important the entire global population truly does not wonder just like me and additionally the blog site possessor :D

  • purple:

I’m not trying to be mean but that lady has really got no heart. Was she thinking that her English is good enough to’cover up’ her true opinions of the standard of the facilities?!Thinking that she must be doing such a good job and most probably wanting a promotion from her boss, she scorns other countries and speaks highly of her own. frankly, i am not against her saying her true opinions but saying it to the press and most likely knowing that it will be published for the world to see doesn’t leave a good impression on her either. As in, which country wouldn’t put in all their effort when they get a once in a blue moon opportunity to host a very special event? if according to her, criticizing another country’s efforts is part of her job, then why not she just insult that world and praise her country? And she very well know that Singapore isn’t a very big country and holding YOG is a real challenge, couldn’t she just comment that, with her understanding that Singapore isn’t a huge country, the facilities could still be improved but is good enough for the usage of all athletes. This would sound much less insulting and would maybe remove some darts from the her board.

  • lumjohnson:

Fully agree with the young lady from Slovak , right from the start , i just cant accept YOG – STUPID ,now spending nearly 400 millions, what we get,F*** Shit, better spend this money for the Poor on food and so on.

  • Volunteer`:

Spore only has got 2.5yrs to prepare for the game from the time they won the bid while the next host country has more time. Credit has to be given for this extrodinary task and now we see the YOG going well. I gotta say there are rooms for improvement and that there are many ‘mis management’ but still, spore did well!
