Malaysian Sports Minister criticized PAP’s “foreign talent” sports policy

The PAP’s much maligned “FT sports policy” has come under fire from even our neighbors across the Causeway.

During a parliamentary session on Monday, Senator Datuk Nor Hayati Onn mooted the idea of recruiting “imports” from other countries like the PAP to represent Malaysia in sports.

Her suggestion was shot down by the Malaysian Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Senator Gan Ping Sieu who said doing so may create a “negative perception” on Malaysia.

“I’m not trying to accuse other countries of anything here, but take Singapore’s national table tennis squad for instance. All of the athletes are imported from China. If we follow the practice, it may give a negative perception towards our country,” Mr Gan said.

The Singapore women table-tennis team won the World Championship in Moscow lately by beating China. However, all its players are born in China and became Singapore citizens only lately, prompting some to sneer at the match as between “China Team A versus Team B.”

Mr Gan added that Malaysia will focus on developing their own talents instead of taking the easy way out to “buy” medals like the PAP.

“As far as our ministry is concerned, our focus is more towards developing our own local talents and turning them into athletes of international standards,” he said.

Malaysia boasts of few local-born world class sportsmen and women such as Li Chongwei, the current world number one in badminton and Nicoll David, the world number one in Women squash.

In contrast, Singapore has no local winners and has to depend on importing foreigners like Feng Tianwei to win medals for it, a method which many Singaporeans have poured scorn on.

  • PAP and DAP same same:

Sports is suppose to be for sporting.Win or loose does not matter. But the fact that one tried and attempted –that matters most.Because sometimes the difference between the first ans last can be just nano seconds…..in this respect Malaysia is right.Because when one see one nation competing with home bred locals the moral boost it gives to the whole nation is unmeasurable…Almost like an investment.Say education ,health care and infrastructures..you cannot measure it in terms of income over expenditure therefore the net profits is so much.Such is the nature of sports.

But in Singapore. Our multi million dollar ministers try to run sports like a corporate world….spend so much money and it yield so much medals.Quickie solutions. Therefore it is far from being sports. It yields no benefit to locals. The medals won in such a business endeavor are as empty as the air…no pride for the nation or the people. The medals are as good as the best money can buy.

The meaning of sports is dead here.

  • Money Faced PAP:

It’s such a shame that Singapore has to resort to buying honour which should be earned.

I really don’t understand why our PAP leaders are still so proud of fake honour ?

Singapore can also become a nation with talent. Here is what the government need to do.

For a start, look for those who are good in their respective games. Then provide them with free housing, free car, free healthcare, free insurance, free utilities and salary + allowance. These people must not play a fool and they must put all their heart and soul into it. Their everyday business is nothing but the game and no more monkey business or all privilage will be revoke.

Singapore trains many young men to become army. There are at least 1,000,000 young man and don’t tell me that you cannot find just 100 talented young man. The percentage is only 0.01% Come on, I m sure they can find them. Give them the very best and they will give you the very best. Malaysians climbed up to the peak of Everest, I m sure Singaporeans can too.

Never give up, keep on trying. Don’t listen to people who say that you cannot do it. You can if you want

A Ang; The people of Singapore are very tired of the PAP government. The PAP treat Singaporeans as ignorant fools.

Really, there is nothing you can get from the PAP. They don’t believe in the free market economy, neither are they socialists. They rule arbitrarily depending on the whim and fancies of the PAP leaders.

Singaporeans should not delude themselves into thinking we produce world class sportsmen/women.

  • The Patriot:

We must all look at the forest and not the tree itself. In imperialistic Singapore, whatever the lap-dog leeching ministers do now, they are all doing it for the interests of the emperor lee and certainly not for the spirit of the things they do and definitely not for the interests of the people.

Especially the last few years, all the eunuch ministers have to quickly implement policies to establish Singapore as the best country on the face value in the world at all costs so that the old fart can go down to history as the most brilliant leader in the history. In return, all these eunuch ministers are rewarded with a job of few million dollars a year without having to account to the tax-payers.

    Examples,

    1. Singapore already too small, according to the old fart, to have too many canals to avoid flood, yet the government is allowing hundreds of new condo and entertainment centres (eg casinos and shopping centres) to spring up for mostly the foreigners. Old fart’s objective is to make Singapore the most developed country on the face value in his reign but he does not care how the people suffer in the consequences.

    2. The Youth Minister had just squandered away the peasants’ hard-earned money by over running a few hundred million dollars to host the vanity fair of youth olympic while increasing another few dollars for the old retiring Singaporeans is considered a splash. Again this is to boast to the world by misusing the people money that Singapore is also a sport centre even though we have no sport activity or talent to talk about.

    3. Old fart behaves like an emperor and has make a clear distinction between the ruling and peasant citizens. The former include of course himself and his cronies elites. The latter of course are the slave peasants. Therefore, he does not care whether the slaves are citizens or foreigners as long as they slog to build the country for him. Therefore, if the citizens do not want to slog for him, he would bring in the foreigners.

The list of examples can go on. But I leave it to your imagination and experience to list more.

However, what I want to bring to all Singaporeans’ attention is that have you all noticed that Singapore’s successes are all funded by its tax-payers’ money at all costs. In other words, the ruling party PAP would splash away millions if not billions to make successes at their credit but on the other hand squeeze the tax-payers for the coffer. Eg.

    1. use billions of tax-payers money to build infrastructures for the casinos which are owned by the foreigners.
    2. host youth olympic costing few hundred millions which we have not sport talent to participate
    3. pay old fart few million dollars a year to go around the world lecturing other people how to run their countries but telling its people that flood in Singapore is inevitable and Singaporeans are ignorant and daft.
    4. spent billions to build an army just to safeguard the FTs and their families to enjoy their lives in Singapore while the true bred Singaporeans have to worry about their livelihood everyday.

Again this list can go on.

  • A Ang:

    Dear DML

Lets say in your lifetime after working hard, so you have finally made $50 Million of wealth and ready for retirement because you have hit 60 and can no longer work anymore.

Consider this, your cousin who only managed to make $10 Million after working all his life and there is a likelihood that he cannot work as he has also reached 60. Of course, you can say “Hey joker, see I got $50 Million and you only got $10 Million”

Here is the catch, you have forgotten that your cousin brother has just inherited 100 acres of oil palm Land, 100 acres of rubber plantation land, oil field, tin mine, gold mine, one mountain of sands, one mountain of concrete, industrial land, commercial land, housing land and many more from his daddy. So tell me, would you say that you are richer than your cousin?

If your answer is YES, then I must CONCUR with what MM Lee says about Singaporeans are ignorant. My friend, always think before you make a statement. It will look ugly on you if you said it too fast.

How do you expect us to achieve anything in any sport when there just isnt any platform for singaporeans to excel in them. From young, the emphasis placed on our children is studies first, sports second. We are too overburdened by our schoolwork to be concered with playing our sport. We need to get our priorities right. Athletes should be athletes and students should be students. Let our future athletes have the time to train full time without any concerns for academic results, then we can be able to achieve.

Another thing is concerning males. The age 18-20 is considered the peak development period for any athelete. Yet for singaporean males we have to spend those 2 years in NS instead of improving ourselves.

So tell me, how are we supposed to compete with other countries?

Not only PAP has no shame in buying honour it has no shame in selling backside also especially to China and India.

  • Shameful to be Singaporean:

The PAP is corrupt, lack values, no morals, has no credibility nor integrity. The most shameless and thick-skin political party in the world. The only ruling party in the world that hoodwink, cheat and lies through its teeth. It has no respect at all for the citizens. It has no remorse or guilt feelings. For past 40 years the citizens had been ignorant about the true colours of the PAP – all because of a lack of media and judiciary freedom which is the result of total and full control through a one-party rule. The citizens are now feeling very ashamed and no more feeling proud to identify themselves as Singaporeans.

Also displaying fake Patriotism by displaying unwanted national flags in selected HDB blocks. True Patriotism comes from the heart but I don’t see many individual private homes supporting National Day. The lack of fierce Singapore Patriots displaying their love for their country is definitely very telling. The orderly and properly placed flags actually display the Government’s hypocrisy. One can bring the horse to the water but cannot force it to drink.

    PAP good. i love PAP.

PAP follows the rules of world. There is nothing wrong to use money to buy medals. USA also did the same.

Actually Singapore is not the first country to do it. Singapore always follow. Somebody did it first and nobody complains and barks.

But when Singapore does, barkings coming. Because others see us as a small red dot. So they picked us.

I fully support buying medals. It’s allowed and regconised.

I have money why i can’t buy ? The only problem is when money can’t buy and useless. What’ wrong to use money i earned hard to buy something money can buy ?

It’s something new for the M minister. After many years he sees this type of things take place everywhere in the world, he will learn and accept it.

In this aspect, he is like a child first time see something new and strange.

I myself also found this is amusing years ago when i saw USA and New Zealand have Cina look players. Now i have accepted it find it absolutely normal.

Hi folks, just see more strange and new things and learn. Learning never ends.

  • Serious Thots:

    Fellow Singaporeans

Sports is about fair play. You do not “buy” medals but win them and through fair means and with honour. My take is that we should try to develop our own talents instead of “buying” or “stealing”.

I read with interest the article about Lee Bee Wah, the head of the Singapore Table Tennis Association in this week’s Straits Times. But I would be a lot prouder of her if she had done something with our local players even if we do not win high honours.

I cannot help but equate this to buying a degree from a paper mill for our egoistical self-satisfaction.

It is unlike Singaporeans having the best for say the Singapore Symphony Orchestra because we can enjoy the music or hiring the best foreign brains for our country. These are bread and butter issues.

But winning sport medals are not die, die must do things. We can do it at our pace.

  • human being:

One questions the glory of sports and the spirit of winning. For our fellow local sportsmen, they do their best for the pride of the nation, and when they win, they win for the glory of his country, he sings the National Anthem because that was the first song he sang since young and understood what it stands for. Can you say the same of our foreign sportsmen? Are they doing their best for personal reward and monetary gains and when the national anthem plays, what does it really mean to them? Which victory is worth more as a nation? Which victory is worth glorifying. The one through patriotism or cash?

Those table tennis players are made in China imported to Singapore to gain the medals.
Like that why not we import 3 Brazilians and 3 Argentians and 4 Columbians and some Singaporeans to make up a strong soccer team , am sure heading to world cup is no prob.

Oh yess what about , importing potential amercian blacks street basketballers to singapore to represent us, a gold is certain in the Asian and Sea games.

Oh yess why not import foreign talents from India as in bunch of Cricket players to play for Singapore, am sure an entry to world cup criket is highly possible isnt it .

  • TogetherWeStand:

Our sportsman r all Singaporean! so what’s the problem huh?

Government should change the way we are categorize, eg.
Singaporean-malay race should be called Singmalay.
    Singaporean-chinese race > Singchinese
    Singaporean-indian race > Singidian
    Singaporean-eurasian race >Singeurasian

so as to not confuse Singaporean-chinese to chinese from china
    Singaporean-malay to malay from Malaysia
    indian to indian from India
    eurasian to eurasian from Europe…..

so, once FT becomes a Singaporean, her identity wil no longer be confuse. Chinese national from china after taking up Singapore citizenship should no longer be called a chinese but Singchinese. like that, all FT including all our ancestor who had come from all around the world and make Singapore their home to feel grounded here.

when i introduce myself now ,’i'm a Singaporean chinese’, ppl from other country always mistaken me as a china citizen living in Singapore.
    Very confuse right?
i hope to introduce myself as ‘i’m a singchinese from Singapore’.

Because he move around so frequent, he is seems as “Not a Malaysian” We have a group of Top 10 richest Malaysians. Out of which 7 of them are Chinaman (Check with Forbes) If our government is so badly messed up as claimed or blamed by you, then how come do we still have such statistic? Why dont you scroll up and read what I wrote to DML. I think you will understand.

    Dear AMX-13

You have “commandos” but no guts. A simply analaysis will say so and even the ORIGINAL SINGAPOREAN (Born in the soil of Singapore) also admitted to it. You are know to be “Kia Su, Kia Si, Kia Boh, Kia Chenghu” You may have the training but if your balls are not large enough, you have no guts to do it. The last time I heard, a girl was beaten up in the bus and nobody came to her rescue. So much for all the “super trainings”

Malaysia may not have gone through that kind of training, but we have the balls to stand up. We have “Pai Kia” who are daring enough to use parang and slash someone. Forget about “Pai Kia,”even our ordinary people has the guts to come out for street protest. They are not afraid to even our own police force. We stand up with protest when our authorities are wrong. My dear friend, learning and talking are one thing, but doing it is entirely another ball game

    Dear Uniquely Singapore,

I have replied to DML earlier, perhaps you missed it. Anyway, just scroll up and you can read all of it. I m a little lazy to explain. As for importing, I dont see the need for us to do it. We have Nicole David, Lee Chong Wei and a few more who are already rank in the Top 5.

Yesterday, I had a Mamak Session with my cousin brother. We talked about some of our relatives in Singapore. This is our anology.

“Singaporeans are like the FIRST wife of a very richman. This richman has given her a huge house, a huge car, a yatch, a helicopter, creditcards, bodyguards, drivers, maids and etc. However, this richman also has 5 mistress whom he spent only the weekends with his FIRST wife. Other days he spent his time with that 5 mistress. The FIRST wife is sad and lonely in silence because she cannot do anything. If she retaliate, she will lose everything. So, she just let her husband do anything he likes and as long as she KEEP HER MOUTH SHUT, she will be alright”

  • Ken:

Malaysia has integrity to help and develop its own people. Singapore just want to find an easy way out to make a name into the world sport arena. It backfire, not even with popular support from many singaporeans.

  • I don’t think there is talent in Malaysia, that is why Hiyati’s proposal.

“I’m not trying to accuse other countries of anything here, but take Singapore’s national table tennis squad for instance. All of the athletes are imported from China. If we follow the practice, it may give a negative perception towards our country,”

  • The issue here is Singapore, we don’t need to buy gold medals. It is shameful.Thailand,Philippines have world class sportsmen. Stop your crap ways and listen to the true blue Singaporeans. PAP the signs are there and it will come before saying Jack Robinson. Put oyur head down and listen the bells are ringing. Peace n love
