PAP mass-recruiting Taiwanese PMETs by offering higher than market pay to lure them to work in Singapore
Written by Our Correspondent
In other countries, the governments will introduce measures to safeguard the livelihoods of locals by restricting the number of foreign migrant workers.
It is the other way round in Singapore – the PAP opens the floodgates to allow the foreigners in to compete with Singaporeans directly for jobs which can otherwise be taken up by them. To add salt to the injury, it is playing an active role in “importing” foreigners while exhorting Singaporeans to be “cheaper, better and faster” at the same time.
PAP leaders have been busy of late trying to defend its discriminatory immigration and labor policies against native Singaporeans. DPM Teo Chee Hean said on Monday at a NUS ministerial forum that the PAP has kept a “tight lid” on immigration.
PAP MP and NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Madam Halimah Yacob claimed that according to her “counter-intuition”, it is not true that employers are hiring foreigners over Singaporeans:
“Wise employers know they should look strictly at merit so that they get the best talent for the organisation.”
[Source: Straits Times, 7 April 2010]
The PAP is indeed a “wise” employer by spending Singapore taxpayers’ monies to go all the way to Taiwan to recruit their PMETs to replace Singaporeans.
The China Times reported today that a Singapore government organization – Contact Singapore is mass recruiting thousands of Taiwanese PMETs in various fields such as healthcare, engineering and social media to fill up “vacancies” in Singapore. (read article here)
Its officials had arrived in Taiwan yesterday and will be launching the recruitment exercise soon.
As expected, the sensational news was censored in all the major Singapore papers out of fear of creating a public backlash against the PAP.
Contact Singapore (联系新加坡) is an agency of the Singapore (PAP) government whose primary function is to draw people from around the world to work, invest and live in Singapore, with the ultimate aim of boosting economic development. It is an alliance of Singapore’s Economic Development Board and Ministry of Manpower.
Contact Singapore has offices in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. It partners Singapore-based employers and industry players to organise career fairs and networking sessions in cities across the world, and provide updates on career opportunities and various industry developments to individuals.
[Source: Wikipedia]
In other words, Contact Singapore is funded ENTIRELY by Singapore taxpayers to recruit foreign PMETs to compete directly with Singapore PMETs for limited jobs.
According to the China Times article, Singapore is offering the Taiwanese salaries which is more than three times the market rate in Taiwan to lure them over to Singapore.
The starting pay ranges from NT55,000 ($2,431) to NT66,000 ($2,917). Those with three to five years of experience can expect a starting pay of more than NT100,000 ($4,420) (1 Taiwanese dollar = S$0.0442)
Besides PMETs, Singapore is also hiring creative designers in the cultural and arts realms who can command a starting salary of more than S$7,000.
Why is the PAP bringing in so many Taiwanese PMETs into Singapore when these jobs can easily be taken up by Singaporeans? Are these jobs “shunned” by Singaporeans as proclaimed frequently by PAP leaders?
Contact Singapore’s CEO Huang Xiujuan said there are about 50,000 to 60,000 Taiwanese in Singapore and they tend to integrate well into Singapore society due to similiarities in language and culture. The majority of Singapore Chinese are Hokkiens who spoke the same dialect as Taiwanese (Min-Nan).
(And who is paying for Ms Huang’s airfare, lodging and meals in Taiwan when she goes about recruiting Taiwanese PMETs?)
It is an open secret that the PAP has been trying desperately hard to lure Taiwanese and Hong Kongers to settle in Singapore.
One Taiwanese reader wrote to us expressing his disbelief that upon applying to work in Canada, he was offered a Singapore PR immediately by the migration agency under the Landed PR scheme which gives Singapore PRs to foreigners who have never stepped foot on Singapore.
“The agent kept selling Singapore to me and persuaded me to take up Singapore PR as the application for Canada work visa takes a long time. I refused. Singapore is not an attractive place at all. I rather stay put in Taiwan than to relocate to Singapore. At least it is a democracy here and we enjoy basic political freedoms. Who will be so stupid to bring up their children in a one-party dictatorship like Communist China? I know it is difficult to go to Canada, but I am willing to wait for 10, 20 and even 30 years to go there, otherwise I will just remain here,” he quipped, obviously not having a favorable impression of Singapore.
Prospective immigrants should observe how the PAP government treats its own citizens first before deciding whether to take up Singapore citizenship.
Under the PAP’s repressive rule, Singaporeans have no civil or political rights at all. We cannot criticize its leaders who are wont to sue for defamation; we cannot protest against its policies and neither can we vote them out of office as the electoral process is engineered to keep them in power forever.
To those Taiwanese who are reading this, is this the kind of country you want to bring up your children in? Will you trade your human rights for a few hundreds dollars?
Remember: if the PAP can so blatantly hire you to work in Singapore to make life miserable for native Singaporeans, it will be your turn one day too.

This is sickening. Instead of hiring locals, these PAPIES bastards went all over the world to look for other nationalities to offer them jobs instead.
And to make matter worst, these bastards were using our taxpayers money…..
PAPPIES, if you have the balls and guts, call for general election NOW.
my shock.
thk TR.
i wonder when the gahmen will start hiring teachers to replace our singaporean teachers?
or has the gahmen alread started doing so…
An article, very well written especially, the ending part!
I am wondering if we are really that short handed here in Singapore that we need to scout the world for workers! It just make me sick to the bone that the PAP is doing such an evil act.
Hey Pap, if you are reading this, please spare a thought for us peasants. I serve NS to protect who, the elites?
i wonder if this recruitment drive happened before or after the big ‘hoo-hah’ about FTs displacing singaporeans…
Besides PMETs, Singapore is also hiring creative designers in the cultural and arts realms who can command a starting salary of more than S$7,000.
something is wrong somewhere with this article….
Then hairy politics is selling out Singaporeans because we are against the mistakes that hairy has made!!!…
Let this then be a lesson for every voting age man and woman… to never NAIVELY EVER AGAIN give their minds and so their souls JUST UPON the suggestions of any political leader!!!… Because… by the time you’ve discovered their deceit… they MAY sell YOU out before you can build up enough numbers to bring them down to reality and their accountability to YOU… who REPEATEDLY gave them their positions of power In TRUST of their words!!!…
Now that you know regimes work… ???
Sigh Sigh Sigh …. no matter how much effort i put in persuading my friends and relatives to vote for opposition, no matter how much singaporean hated PAP, PAP will still win…. sigh sigh sigh ……..
If this recruitment in Taiwan is true….
Then, NTUC Mdm Halimah is talking nonsense!
I say kick the PAP in their nuts.
what is wrong with them
IS 1.2mil FT and 0.6mil PR insufficient for our workforce??
Why are we looking for more FT to come to singapore??
Most likely this is a political move by PAP to get more new voters in to ensure they remain in power
PAP is desperate to get these people in so that when elections come, PAP will still win.
I hope the elections come asap.
PAP now really is against us already, I really hope this election they will go down, otherwise we will go down.
Can we hire foreigners to take over the various ministries? I’m sure they’re cheaper. Maybe pay them like $15 per hour for the Minister of Education position, a contract of 3 months and yes there are FTs who have the qualifications to do that!
The Taiwanese reader is smart and sharp. Good for him. At least he know the consequences of becoming a Singapore citizen.
We locals are trying to get out off Singapore, only those simple minded and stupid foreigner will want to migrate to Singapore.
This hard sell policy has already backfire. Foreigners see Singapore as a cheapskate country and her well paid one-party squeeze her true blue citizen by rising cost and depressing salary thru importing cheap, low quality foreigner workers.
Genuine foreign talent will never come to Singapore because they know they will subject to the unfair competition from these cheap and low quality opportunists like what the locals are facing.
How come no recruitment in Taiwan for CHEAPER, BETTER & FASTER MPs????
They need foreign + chinese to give them the votes and color, no surprise Taiwan and HK are targeted.
People of Singapore, isn’t this and other actions of LKY and PAP clear that we are all not wanted by the despots in powe? They are doing all their best to drive us out of the country we were born and bred.
Upon receiving news that people respond to propaganda with negative attitude and comments the evil lky does not hestitate to fight back in words against the people who feed him.
Do something to improve your life in Singapore, please. Vote them out!
Can TR publish the source/link for this hiring exercise as stated (i.e. China Times article)?

Haha, HaLeeMah! Where are you, where are you? What have you got to say now, huh??????
So, the govt is lying and such action is deadly.
Liar!
If we have to sink, lets sink together folks.
6.5 million “target”. Lol!
Cannot charm locals to stay and therefore “open” floodgate for foreigners to come.
Well, hope they vet them well.
what will happen to us? and why is it happening to us?
thk TR.
a change is inevitable.
Abolish NS, abolish NS, abolish NS,
what is remaining for us to defend ???
is it our jobs ? is it our children’s school places ?
is it our children’s university places ? is it our HDB homes ?
is it our cars-COEs ? is it our politicians ? is it our medical care ? it is our elderly care ?
abolish NS, abolish NS, abolish NS
This recruitment in Taiwan is confirmed true:
http://news.chinatimes.com/focus/0,5243,50104940×112010040800085,00.html
I think the wafer fabs in Pasir Ris are the companies hiring e.g. SSMC and UMC. If you go to lunch in Pasir Ris West Plaza you will see many of these China or Taiwan engineers there.
This is sickening.. why can’t the gahman protect our rice bowl? Perhaps we should hire cheaper, better and faster people to replace the gahman also.
it appears that the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing…
just like the statements made by MBT and VBala on the ever rising price of HDB flats…
Utterly atrocious ! Blasmephous infact. Is this LKY’s revenge to us SINGAPOREANS for giving him a 66% mandate ?! If it is , I wish him good riddens and may he live long enuf to see his son die a tragic death from cancer flare up .
disgusting.
No need to wonder here and there. Singaporeans are being replaced as time ticks, while fooled into thinking “its” not happening. Jobless PMET Singaporeans, have you found a job yet?
OMG! If this report is TRUE, I really don’t want this Gov anymore. There’s no point trying to ‘root’ to Singapore where our gov can do this to US ????
If really PAP wants to clear its name, Manpower Minister please verify this ‘NEWs’ publicly else I’m really Utterly Disgusted by my own Gov. Such sense of betrayal could never be felt in my entire life before till NOW!
Sick…
It’s true! I also want to go to Canada to work and live. Love that place. I’m a young grad so theres still a chance to reclaim myself.
Everything happening as expected… Hahahahahahaha…
Hahahahahahahahaha…
Hahahahahahahahaha…
Lol…whats new….
Comeon bros and sisters….just make plans to migrate…no point fighting the system….let it rot the way it is….like what Jack Welch said….a merit-free (meaning not based on merit) system will eventually collapse on itself.
You’ve been REPEATEDLY TOLD… “THAT those foreigners ARE HERE to CREATE JOBS FOR YOU”!!!…
So… For the life of me… WHY ARE YOU SO SO “daft” and STILL CANNOT GET THAT… hairy message message “Of encouROACHmenT”??? … sic!!!
The PAP is now bringing in reinforcement from abroad to fight Singaporeans.
Brother!!! Sit tight and we will fight back!
Boo-hoo-hoo! PAPa is selling away our beloved SG, liao! How hah? What will happen to our children in the near future if PAPayas were to remain in power?
They’re desparate for new grateful voters!!!
Sounds familiar?
It is called stealing the bell while banging the THUNDEROUS gong to drown out all awareness of theft of truth.
That is to say we are very strict with our immigration and it is “counter-intuition” that employers will employer foreigners in preference over Singaporeans and BRING IN PLANELOADS AND PLANELOADS OF FOREIGNERS TO DISPLACE YOU ALL ROWDY COMPLAINING MOB OF TRUTH PROTESTING.
while Singaporeans are against this, these are what Taiwanese said:
“Yahoo看到這則新聞,趕緊跑來中時留言。
我現正在新加坡工作,有意到此工作者請千萬注意,新加坡的生活成本很高,如果在此工作薪水只高台灣3成,那我勸你要多加考慮,此地的住宿、食膳、交通費用極有可能會吃掉那3成,還更多。
新加坡居大不易!
留言: CC 2010-04-08 11:46:32″
and
“歡迎到美國就業
我是台灣來的美國藥師,看到新加坡聘”臺勞”,趕快來留言
美國藥師薪水約七千元美金起跳,時薪約五十元美金起跳,比新加坡高了好幾”倍”,生活所需約比臺灣多五成,新加坡才用高三成的薪資就想聘請臺灣高素質的醫療人才,太看不起臺灣人,歡迎有骨氣的臺灣人來美國一起打拼,不要讓新加坡看扁臺灣人…”
How?
所以說嘛, 本來就是政府有問題~
@NSmen in Green,
Bro you just woke up huh ? Papaya is always trowing smoke! to
bluff Singaporean .
Is this a sign that we are being replaced progressively?
hahaa…guys if you read the initial comments, i think quite a few Taiwanese do not see the merits in coming to Singapore to work. truly man, pap has screwed this country up so much that real talents will not want to sacrifice themselves here to be ’slaves’ to the pappies
to @LocalChineseGuy, i agree with you, we should make plans to migrate but not everyone will be fortunate enough to do that for whatever reasons they may have.
So while we can, we all have to band together as true singaporeans, to make our VOTES count and to cast out this self-serving pappie govt or at least put a 1/3 opposition voice in parliament, so that they cannot steamroll any policy any way they like to. let us remind them that they are the real servants, ok if they like we can give them the title of elite servants.
Mahjula Singapura
One must also know why the year 1999 is used. 1999 is in the middle of one of the worst economic recession in Asia. While there are many people having their pay cut or jobless, the housing price is only in the beginning of decline. (Housing price always have a delay in its price adjustment from the economic situation). Therefore, if the base year is earlier, per say 1996 (or better still 1995), the graph will look alot worse.
1999 is the only year where the graph will look ok. What a scum bag this mah bao tan is.
Here it is: http://www.taiwantoday.tw/ct.asp?xItem=97934&ctNode=445
We are truly forsaken! Singaporeans must not doubt anymore. If we do not take action now, we are done for! Wake up fellow countrymen! Wake up and see what is happening to our livelihood and our lifes! We must have more oppositions in the parliament this coming GE! JBJ was right! With no checks in the government, PAP can do anything they want and one day we will wake up and see all our hard earned money inaccessible and no jobs available to us! I weep for my fatherland!
write until the cow comes home… i tell you nothing will happen. PAP will not be easily kick out.
PAP will still be in power after the next election.
5 years from now… Singapore is going to be a very sad place to be for the poor, weak & old.. and the middle class.
REPLACE & KICK OUT ALL SINGAPOREANS (POOR, OLD & WEAK)… REPLACE WITH NEW CITZENS.. THIS IS ON-GOING.
U KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO….
Singaporeans come first!!
How many times the ministers have come out and uttered this crap??
Hey, you all PMETs out there, you all take this sitting down??
This is the beginning of the end most Singaporeans who are out of jobs!!
YOUR SINGAPORE?? You bet it is!!
God is watching… listening… and also reading the hairy minds!!!… Just pray and wait for His timing and justice WILL be served!!!… Be NOT over anxious!!!… JUST this SNOWBALL GROWING!!!
@JusticeWillBeServed and RED ,
Agree with your point , Singaporean must wake up their fucking
idea ‘WAKE UP ” . This GE is the chance to do it , without 2/3 seat
in parliament Papaya cannot Suka Suka put in any new policy they
like .
And also cannot suka Suka , loose 50+ billion of our money without
accountability .
Singaporean VOTE with your EYES and EAR open ! Dont fall for
short term benefit .
Why bother to educate our children when most of the jobs go to the foreigners?
next election is the last hope….. if not bye bye Singapore.
Maybe ?? better to be a PR/citizen of another country than to be a Singaporean. Maybe the govt in the other country will treat u more decently…. Very sad indeed….
Red – is correct. Nothing will happen as they will be in power after the next GE. The mega GRCs and the hugh deposits required are to prevent opposition parties and individuals from contesting in the GE. This is one of their dirty tricks to retain power forever.
Indeed, it would be very difficult for the poor, the old, the sick and the middle class in the years to come. This country is only for the elites and the rich. They have nothing to worry about. On the other hand, ordinary folks will have to..show respect..to the thousands of new citizens and FTs. What a shame.
Dear all.
Congratulate me.
I’m already in New Zealand.
It’s not perfect, but at least the minister here are not paid as much.
I welcome everyone to New Zealand.
(I had move over from Singapore 4 years ago.)
Incompetent PAP monkeys can only managed to employ low quality engineers from China & India.
Wake up la!
Ho Ching already sold Chartered Semiconductor Mfg.
Majority of the workers in this company are foreigners right? So what happened?
elfred,
i think you should change your nick to horsebehindcannon…
more suitable…
With more Taiwanese, does it mean Singapore will have both type of Chinese language growing equally important, or just lost out as bad mix of Traditional Chinese/ Simplified Chinese in long run
Singaporean probably can only manage to get job offer like short term contract job (at current market rate, but without job prospect) to work in oversea country like Taiwan
Senseless attitude by government will not only be despised by more Singaporeans, but also will make real talent hesitate to come back or step into this sad country without meaningful direction
knnbccb ………this is a lame way to ensure the racial mix in singapore.
Dear Singaporean go back home separate words among your Family & relative to vote out the paP in the next Election-or your sibling will suffer under the PAP rule again U will be third or four class citzen.Don’t let your old parent being bluff for joining the RC grass root. Most of the Singaporean are still idiot. They didn’t know head & tail.Help to wake them up.
I like taiwan and I like the Taiwanese people…
however, to encourage Taiwanese PMET to come to singapore and work…is it productive with their standard of english?
And as a Taiwanese, the government offers better medical welfare and retirement scheme, why will they want to come to SGP and get their life suck out of them?
However, i doubt Taiwanese PMETs are daft enough to select Singapore…one good thing about my frequent travel there is that i observe then even their retail jobs are employing locals
@Andy on Thu, 8th Apr 2010 5:27 pm
Good on you mate!
@Hollow
Exactly.
Wow I am really impressed by this article. These TR people must stand for elections! The PAP has completely forgotten about the people of Singapore. VOTE THEM OUT NOW and lets take control of our country!
If this article, or even better the actual Taiwan article, is printed and distributed to every housing estate, will the police have a right to apprehend this person?
@Andy
You should form anti pap lobby groups overseas with follow ex Singaporeans..more international pressure must be out on to sg govt
The PAP government is absolutely despicable and uncaring. They are the best paid government yet they are not helping the many Singaporean PMETs who are still unemployed. Instead they continue to act blur but secretly recruiting foreigners to compete with Singaporeans.
To add on…some people will criticize the taiwanese govt for been corrupted…but hey, at least they apologize and step down when something happens, which is a 180deg difference from here.
To any Taiwanese out there, do not get trick into coming to Singapore. The only good thing here compared to your country is no earthquake and typhoon…however, that is due to nature and not the gahmen…
furthermore, in Taipei, the public transportation is way better…with 1 mins interval during peek hours for MRT…compared to our pack like sardine MRT…
To be truthful, I will rather migrate there than stay in Singapore. However, the stark difference compared to Singapore is that their citizens-wannabe has to go through a chinese text
The Taiwanese are not that hard-up and stupid like those rubbish and trash.
They are well breed citizens and enjoyed great democracy in their land.
Even if they are here, it is only for short period of time.
TR is very right about this statement :
Remember:
if the PAP can so blatantly hire you to work in Singapore to make life miserable for native Singaporeans, it will be your turn one day too.
Taiwan MPs can fight in Parliment, they are no push-overs.
Their Triad also quite powerful. Need to screen these new citizens.
Spent 2.5 yrs of my life doing national service drawing less than $200 with Diploma cert., spent another few yrs looking for jobs. Sick no money see doctor. Go Polyclinic, queue long long and the foreign doctor ask me pay $18. So many colored ICs at policlinic, green, blue. I am the only pink.
I upgraded my diploma to degree, degree to master. So wat? Cannot find jobs. Study for wat? University of Mandalay Myanmar (not recognised by PE Board) can find jobs in Singapore. Recognised degrees cannot find work in Singapore. This is a joke.
Now still jobless. Family dont understand thought I purposely don;t work. Wife also not working, children/wife everyday still ask for $$. School fees need to pay, books, assessment. School seminar need $10 cannot tell them jobless.
I should appear in OKTO “Stranger than You” programme. My ex coy full of PRs and S passes.
Jobless Degree on Thu, 8th Apr 2010 8:00 pm,
So cham ah you. You very the cham leh. Really cham. Cham to the core. Cham lah you. Cham cham cham.
I’m currently working in UK, it took me 5 years to obtain my Permanent Stay (PR) status in UK, with proof of paying taxes and national insurance in consecutively 5 years and taking a Life in the UK test inorder to qualify my application.
And it takes me another year to be their resident with which I did not go ahead. And having been living here for 8 years, I still miss Singapore a lot, the food, the people(true blue Singaporean, relatives and friends) and the ‘rojak’ culture.
My question to PAP is are we that desperate to have so many people in such a short span of time? What are the rational behind such move?
GDP to justify the Ministers’ pay, I think.
TR, your statement “To those Taiwanese who are reading this, is this the kind of country you want to bring up your children in?” is uncalled for.
Feel free to criticise the government or the PAP, I do not like them as well. But while I don’t mind criticism against the government or the PAP, I absolutely hate criticisms against Singapore or Singaporeans.
I may not support any political party, but I am a patriot. Please don’t do a Chee Soon Juan and criticise Singapore and all Singaporeans in front of foreigners – And that’s exactly why foreigners have bad impressions of Singapore (e.g. kiasu-ism, a syndrome which is much more prevalent in China, but is not as well-known)
To Commentator,
Don’t you realise that until today, sad to say, Singapore=PAP, PAP=Singapore.
Unless then PAP is booted out of parliment, or fail to get a 2/3 majority, the fact remains the same. Singapore=PAP, PAP=Singapore. They can implement any policies they want as long as it benefit them, and not the couuntry.
Whether you like it or not. You do not have a choice.
So, in the next GE, my vote will go to any opposition that have the guts to contest in the T.Pagar GRC. Forget about Lau Lee, he is already over the hill.
No, Singapore is not PAP and PAP is not Singapore. Neither is the government the PAP government, although it is dominated by the PAP.
It is exactly because news reports, commentaries and certain disgruntled politicians that this mindset arises. And there are no signs of relenting.
PAP is not stupid. They will not adopt unpopular policies which benefit them instead of the entire Singapore. I am not a PAP supporter, but I still fail to understand why people vote the opposition only for the sake of opposing the PAP, despite the opposition’s lack of credentials other than Chiam and Low.
TR’s motto is “The voice of Singaporeans from Singaporeans for Singaporeans”. It is time for Singaporeans to wake up and stop criticising Singaporeans, ESPECIALLY to foreigners. Note: I am not criticising here.
We pay the Gov, they lure outsiders to compete with us. My dog is more faithful.
What the Singapore govt. probably wants to do is just to pay high above-average rates to attract migrants in this case.
Weird that Taiwanese would want to immigrate to Singapore but if the wage rates are high enough, anything is possible. The Taiwanese thinking of immigrating should be aware, though, that those initial highly attractive wages might only last for so long just to draw them to Singapore but then their wage levels will probably fall back to normal. Then, they might regret their decision but they will be PRs and can move back.
In the meantime, it might not be such a bad thing because Taiwanese engineering is much stronger than Singapore’s and they would be able to contribute a lot.
I forgot. I posted that comment above just to differentiate myself and the PAP.
I cannot comprehend why many slam the PAP for all the bad stuff which happens in Singapore. Then they link that to Singapore and Singaporeans, saying that they are bad too.
Example of reasoning going through foreigners’ minds: PAP is lousy —> Singapore is lousy —> All Singaporeans are lousy (including yourself)
Why, why, why link yourself, as a Singaporean, to the PAP if you find that they are bad in the first place?
complain complain complain
that’s all we’re capable of doing…still relying on the government to ‘find their conscience’ and to do the right thing
wake up
it’s never going to happen
that’s the job of governments, take advantage of the people, drain the resources, enrich themselves
if you don’t like them, vote them out
but singaporeans?
we are so reliant on the government, we even think we can trust them to self-regulate!!
what a joke!
the citizens are the joke.
losers.
Yes. Sickening.
Hi all!
Don’t worry guys! I don’t think taiwanese are as stupid as the other fallen talents who have invaded singapore.
A Taiwanese makeup artist told me that once her daughter finishes her PSLE, she will move back to taiwan. Reasons? High level of stress faced by students to excel in academic and non-academic areas e.g piano, swimming.
She was puzzled why parents here needed to bombard their children with tuition and additional courses. She was ridiculed when kiasu Singaporean parents knew that she doesn’t send her daughter for such activities.
Also, Singapore’s shopping, entertainment and possibly food pale in comparison to Taiwan’s shopping areas e.g. famous night bazaars like shilin street.
Also, Taiwan will phase out its decades-old military conscription policy over the next five years – 2015. Why would they want to waste 2.5 years of their son’s life by becoming Singaporean citizens?
Commentator
What happens when you blow a balloon beyond its limit? what happen when you anyhow blow a trumpet?
People are dissatisfied by the fact that our dear leaders have failed to deliver what they promise…and the fact that life in this country has gone past the tipping point?
“PAP is not stupid. They will not adopt unpopular policies which benefit them instead of the entire Singapore.”
May I ask…is this been naive? Look at what they have adopted…GST increment to 7%, cpf life…obscene pay, influx of FW…are you sure this does not benefit them and benefit S’porean?
@Forgetlah:
Too bad. I am usually just one step before cannon. Hahahahahahahaha…
Elfred has been a nick online for a long long time, Mr F.
And history shalt remember him. Hahahahahaha…
We are not a bunch of YES man to the SG govt.
Please vote wisely or native Singaporean will become no class citizens.
Why the hell are we still studying in university when our dear government is solding us out.
I can see that our younger generation future will be gloomy if ‘a freaking result’ happen that make PAP hold on power and force us into ‘the fall of SG’. Like how the great mighty ROME empire fallen.
Luckily garment not looking for english speaking Indian and Philippino becuase we have have enough of them.
@Commentator
You may get sue by LKY. LKY himself says the PAP is Singapore and Singapore belongs to the PAP.
And btw, we are not a country, we are a city state, hoho. Wake up ur idea first, patriot of no country. If you still think you are a patriot, how cant we dont see you using real name or write in to the PAP SPH forums?

I am not a PAP supporter, but I still fail to understand why people vote the opposition only for the sake of opposing the PAP, despite the opposition’s lack of credentials other than Chiam and Low.//
Bo bian. If they can do to us like digits to be played around, we can also do it to them like digits to be played around. They had their chances for too long.
What credentials ? Can the oppo organize something big freely without needing to get permit to present themselves in a conference. You need to start somewhere.
Even fresh graduates without experience in any work assignment have to started by being employed first before they can prove themselves.
Other than Chiam and Low ? You sure know how to keep your quota to these two fellows only. Nice try anyway.
why complain…just play with jiang mei at geylang.lee.
they get you out of jobs, make you spend your savings at geylang and get VD or go casino and lose till you want to go and mati..then they make you more angry by recruiting more expensive taiwanese FTs …hahaha, pap, very very clever indeed!
why blame opposition lousy when they warned you early, lee.
now,you got conned with your pants down and spent all your money and your family very sad, lee.

To TR:
Please kindly edit your article. In your newest article :
http://www.temasekreview.com/2010/04/09/a-letter-to-china-times-on-pap-mass-recruiting-taiwanese-pmets/
the poster had stated that salary offered to Taiwan PMET is “…職缺 薪多3成”…
What this meant is the salary offered is 30% more then market standard in taiwan, NOT 3 times as much in your article.
(”According to the China Times article, Singapore is offering the Taiwanese salaries which is more than three times the market rate in Taiwan to lure them over to Singapore.”)
Please kindly edit your article. You may want to posted a remark about your honest mistake.
PS: please do not post my comments
stupid Singapore natives don’t change the politicians; but, the MiWs are replacing native Singaporeans with Aliens everyday
stupid native Singaporeans won’t know it – not even when they are horizontally at Mandai or Mt Vernon Crematorium.
PAP like to say Singaporeans and Singapore like to complaint and etc.
In other countries, citizens can voice their comments, because it is a free country and everyone have a stake in their country.
LKY has to shutup and prove to us, why only Sg people likes to complaint. The rest of the world does too, hello, it is the internet age, we not frogs in the wells now.
I remember in the 80-90s, how sg tries to ban satelletic tv because they do not want us to have news from the outside world. And u need a special license too.
If we r a free country, why control us like this?
NTU and NUS sux big time, that is why they r looking for FT.
I am afriad everything is too late…..teh speed at which the PAP is replacing every sporean is too fast to stop. Once population hits 6.5million, the voting ratio of local born sporean will be less than foreign born sporean.
With such low pay, I doubt Singapore government is able to attract talents to work here. There are so many developed countries trying painstaking effort to source talents. Singapore will gradually fall if it does not provide better incentives to encourage people to come here.
note the ceo’s surname… huang is not a common surname as it is taiwanese romanticized form instead of dialect… the dialect equivalent should be ng, wong or ong

It seems that some guys can’t even comment decently on this thread without asking people to “wake up”. I was not even attacking anyone, hello? I fail to comprehend why you guys like to attack posters instead of the issue at hand. Look, comment ON THE ISSUE and stop attacking other posters.
If patriots have to use their real name in posting over here, then everyone here is not loyal to Singapore right? Then everyone want to fight against PAP for what, for the benefit of Singapore? But according to your logic, everyone here aren’t even patriots because they all didn’t use real name!
@Is there a quota for only Chiam and Low
No there isn’t. Chiam is good. But then again, Low himself isn’t even that good in Parliament. Remember Mas Selamat’s escape? Low criticised WKS in Parliament right? Then when LHL stepped in to defend his dear WKS, Low shut up immediately. At least Chiam still fights for Potong Pasir relatively well – given that he’s a very small minority. And Chee Soon Juan? Don’t even bother talking about him.
Remember, ministers like George Yeo were President Scholars. Do we see that kind of quality in the opposition? I guess the next Jeyaratnam could be, but that remains to be seen.
@Toel
If I have to use my real name here if I am a patriot, then who are all of the other posters (including you)? Do you realise that you are calling yourself a non-patriot and hence you do not swear allegiance to Singapore? If you are a foreigner, please shut up and do not meddle in Singapore’s issues. And with regards to your question, yes I have written to ST Forums 3 years ago.
And why don’t you “wake up” yourself? I am obviously commenting on the issue and you have to come and attack posters like me. I fail to understand why you guys like to digress and start attacking other posters. Intellectual debate on the issue, please?
Its sad to see how so many singaporeans, such as urselves fail to notice how much the government and PAP has done for us and instead just focus on these small little issues which probably don’t even affect you but u just chanced upon this article and being the typical singaporean you probably are felt compelled to throw ur 2 cents worth in even though you probably don’t even know what you are talking about.
Wake up, unless we recruit FT singapore will be in trouble. Beyond manpower which we require (our birthrates and dropping at a drastic rate and the number of dependables per working adult is rising at a rapid rate) we also require their knowledge and expertise. Its not necessarily that they are better but that they are different and they are able to bring something different to the table. The singaporean generation today (which I am a part of) lacks the motivation and drive and passion that our forefathers had having to work their way out of poverty and the post-war era. Having such luxurious lifestyles and never having to fight for anything has resulted in a lack of drive and motivation. Our attitudes towards jobs and careers especially. Its little wonder the governemnt seeks to look beyond our borders to our neighbouring countries to actually find people that do.
Before you start replying angrily to my mail stop and think. You feel so strongly about these issues, about the PAP recruiting FT “with our taxes” about their censorship and how they “oppress us”. How they are depriving us of opportunities and giving it to us.
Are you just sitting there and complaining and whinning about these issues or are you actively doing somehting about it, seeking to understand why exactly they have these policies and also doing your research on other countries and their similar policies. Cities like London and Newyork are fillied with foreign workers and thats what makes them so successful. Being able to bring together ideas, thinkers and innovators from all over the world. The government isn’t doing this to “deprive us”. Its to help singapore. And before you reply back with another retort about how this helps us when we are jobless think big and think far.
Singapore is an amazing country. Safe, affluent, political stability, sanitation, healthcare and education we have it all. And its thanks to our government and PAP.
Before we start to critisize them do think about their merits. before you start going on about re-elections and kicking them out of power look around you at all that you have and all that you enjoy in singapore and please have the sense to credit them.
Our generation are spoilt and ungrateful. Complaining about what we lack instead of being thankful for what we have. And beyond complaining, NOT DOING ANYTHING. if you really believe in this, do something about it and that something does not equate to writing some short rude response to this article. do your research, question ask and use proper channels to seek to rectify what you feel is injust.
No wonder our government and companies in Singapore rather hire hardworking driven ambitious foreigners. Honestly wouldn’t you?
my writing isn’t to spite you all or add fuel to these already burning flames of passion you guys seem to have. but rather to get you guys to think and appreciate what we have. and maybe to change. because our generation is so.. is too comfortable.
Signed
A singaporean who loves singapore desperately and hopes others do so to.
Very timely post for me. All I’ve been hearing lately is affiliate marketing and list building. And I’m finally taking action by writing an ebook to accomplish both! I am actually reorganizing my whole business based on affiliate marketing and referrals! Selling other people’s products is a solid gig.
