SPH journalists felt “cheated” by PBM Jack Neo’s “insincere” press conference

Though PBM Jack Neo’s wife Irene Kng had begged the media to let her family off during a brief press conference this morning, SPH journalists from the two Chinese evening tabloids Shin Min Daily and Lianhe Wanbao continue to flame PBM Jack Neo for “wasting their time” by conducting an “insincere” press conference lasting only 3 minutes.
Prominent grassroots leader and movie director PBM Jack Neo was embroiled in a series of juicy sex scandals of late involving women from as young as 16 to as old as the mid 30s.
Soon after the eruption of the scandal, more and more women stepped forward claiming that they had been “sexually harrassed” by PBM Jack Neo whose close friend Foreign Minister George Yeo immediately issued a call for Singaporeans to rally around him.
At the much anticipated press conference held today 10am at the Scorpio East Holdings building belonging to PBM Jack Neo’s entertainment company, Jack and his wife spent only 3 minutes talking to media instead of the “tell all” as promised earlier.
PBM Jack Neo apologized while his wife said she has forgiven him. There was no Q&A session to answer questions from the public.
Lianhe Wanbao today criticized PBM Jack Neo’s press conference as “lacking sincerity and not resolving the problem.”
It questioned if Jack Neo is really sincere in his apology as he knew all along that his wife had been putting up with his extramarital affairs.
One journalist said:
“It lasted less than 5 minutes, this is not a press conference. He has one entire week to cool down and should clarify matters to the press and not just wriggle his way out and wasting everybody’s time. Since he wants everybody to give him a chance, he should show some sincerity first.”
Another added:
“He cried, she cried, then she fainted, he screamed….It’s all too dramatic!”
Straits Times journalist Dong Wei Wen also questioned if PBM Jack Neo was “acting”:
“I believe in Irene Kng’s tears. As for Jack’s, I am not too sure.”
Shin Min Daily quoted a “crisis management” expert Ms Yip as saying that the press conference was too brief and will leave more questions and doubts in the future.
She felt that Jack Neo should have come forth and clarify matters to the press as well as explain to the public what really happened.
Netizens remain divided about Jack Neo’s press conference too. While some felt that it is time to move on, others accused him of staging the entire fracas to win public sympathy.

Nobody claimed he’s obliged to hold a press-conference. The sexual predator himself announced that he’s hold a tell-all press conference and invited the media.
His so called public statement has virtually zero content, “my fault… forgive me… my wife has forgiven me”??…Thats it?? Not even a single word of apology to the many women he abused or attempted to?

You watched the video. If you are sharp-eyed – look at his eyes, you can tell Jack’s not sincere. In his heart, he must be heaving a sign of relief when he heard that his wife used the phrase “close one eye”.

To err is human. While conducting his mis-deeds, JN knew the consequences. So did Irene Kang in closing an eye. I am sure they both knew a fracas like this will eventually surface.

Why cant he make a decent apology to those girls he tried to cheat or had cheated? We have to admit there were women who “threw themselves at him”, but there were those who were not swayed by his “assurances to make them the 2nd “fann wong”. Also, I don’t think we can blame George Yeo for making those comments earlier if he was not aware of the fact that JN had tried to “bed” teenage girls.
Personally I have great respect for Jack Neo for his talent. But not so for his personal moral values.
Jack Neo is a public figure and has always been in the media limelight – for good publicity or bad. People (and the government) even hold up to him as role model. Since his flirtatious ways have been made public, I believe he need to make a clear explanation to the public.
If he is just an ordinary figure, no one will care about this matter. Since he is a public figure, it will have great impact on the social values of our society. It depends how he, his family, his pastor and friends handle this matter.
The girls in question are young, some as young as 16 years old. Wendy is only 21 years old. Is it justifiable for people to put the blame on them? As compared to Jack who is 50 years old with a wealth of experience behind him and people look up to him for mentorship and inspiration?
With great power, comes great responsibility. Simply shrugging it off, and people around forgiving it will just conclude our society values as: it’s ok to flirt around, people forgives you if you are famous, be in the right church, etc. It will lead to further degeneration of our family values. I thought religious values support family values. Now they are taking a light stance towards infidelity?
