Chorus of Change for Singaporeans: Wake Up Cowardly Singaporeans!
Dear Fellow Citizens,
This coming Election will be the litmus test. We win or doom!
Do will have what it takes to stand-up in against the PAP?
Are we the Coward of our own misery?
Put aside the carrot now being presented by PAP. Filter through their “rationale” for the real truth of their motive.
Future of Singapore is in your hands!
PAP does not seem to care! –they do not show much compassion and conscience anymore.
PAP watches, controls, dictates and manipulates our minds, our souls and our lives. We seem to live in a Perfect “Truman Show”-PAP style!
Every rationale PAP gives has cleverly guarded insidious motive-their self-interest of perpetuity.
They have everything to live laps of luxuries for their generation and next generation. Yet they do little to listen to the woes and anguish of citizen earnestly.
PAP delivers so-called “enrichment” calibrated to maximum to their leverage to “buy” votes.
They have tremendous wealth-all that they ever needed. They want now, more Power and Prestige! Absolute Power!
What do most of us have! Our frustrations and angst on housing and foreign influx are not heeded earnestly.
Our past, current generation has to suffer for next generation to have something call decent home. This seems more and more unachievable with escalating cost and insidious stranglehold of PAP over nearly every aspect of our lives.
Is that what we want?
Or ARE WE cowards to the extent we cow in fear of every threat of PAP, and sucks to every carrot which they bait us?
I am afraid we are. We will also “prostitute” ourselves for money carrot dangling in front.
It is in our blood-the fear, the cowardice, the greed?
Singapore is NOT Singapore in the FUTURE. PAP is NOT PAP before! Singapore is PAP soon!
The world is its labor-a pool to select increase population and displace Singaporeans at their discretion.
The Elite, Rich and Powerful will dance with the Lions and regale in Absolute Power & Wealth.
What will happen to most of true-bred Singaporeans in the Future?
So we cowardly Singaporeans, please wake up!
We need to band together, stand-up in what we believe! Or we will never have our next generation of Singaporean we called the “true-bred”!
Nation-hood is only a fiction it seems under PAP!
Let vote and vote victoriously for once in our life to make a very powerful statement to PAP!
Singaporeans, do what is right!
Do we want OUR LIVES, or the LIVES PAP wants US to live!!!
Please discuss this serious issue of current and future prosperity with your families and friends.
Everyone do a little bit, together will be a unity of strength of the Nation we seek!
Opposition Parties, please UNITE, do your part for Singapore for Singaporeans!

Count on me Singapore, I am all yours to VOTE OUT PAP!!!
PAP, our voices will be heard.
VOTE OUT PAP!!!
Most of my friends are not cowardly, they are simply ‘bochap’ (indifferent, don’t care). When I tell them about TR and TOC, they say they are too busy. I think they are too lazy to think. I gave up on them. I don’t need these kind of friends.
Amen!
Just being a devil’s advocate (again).
Wouldn’t calling Singaporeans Cowards turn them against you?
We already have MIW calling us sheep, donkeys not hardworking…we don’t need TR to call us Cowards.
The government is currently trying to show that it is listening to the people and acting.
If you read carefully, the so-called changes are merely cosmetic.
Even so, many sentimental people will be swayed, especially with hand-outs of cash in the near future.
DO NOT BE SWAYED!
If the incumbent is given the same support in the past, we will have to WAIT ANOTHER 5 YEARS before a chance comes to change things.
By that time, there will be more LEGAL BARRIERS to the election of alternative parties.
Do not change your minds, even if the great forecaster gets down on his knees to implore you!
This write-up reminds me of the song sung in the broadway play, Les Miserables, set during the French Revolution:
Les Miserables – Do You Hear the People Sing?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6-5g78Nr6Q
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Courfeyrac:
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
I was not the 66.6% before and will remain so come GE!
To the voice of citizen, your call to vote, may we know who should we vote? Opposition, opposition who?
There is no de facto opposition leader who we can align and stand shoulder to shoulder, so how do we fight. Some say Low TK is so lousy and not gutsy, others say Chiam ST too old, Chee SJ too risky, Kenneath Jeyaratnam he is so new and other party who is really quite unknown to the general public, so what should we do.
The bests people can do is anyhow vote without any direction and bring in politicians of all shapes and types and their ability is also so unknown. You tell what should we do?
The best part of all, the opposition don’t come here to engage us and tell us what they intend to do. They make use of the citizens to spin and scream on their behalf and at the end of the day, if they win they get big money as from MP’s allowances and we will be forgotten.
Why don’t you be more objective by telling us who we should vote to become our new MP and why must we vote them too.
Between Osama or pap, I will vote osama!!!
one hundred and one persent, will vote for the opposition.
Do join the Vote the PAP out Facebook group:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=153492722129#
John Howard was a good leader, but the people were pissed (mainly of his unpopular policy and the perception that he is not interested in the people), so they vote in Kevin Rudd. Hmm. Rudd is not bad too
Which opposition parties are able to campaign against all these ministers? With all the GRCs having 6 ppl..
and many are unable to cast their votes.. due to those so called walk-over wins..
#citizenofSG: “Why don’t you be more objective by telling us who we should vote to become our new MP and why must we vote them too”.
Ok then, this is back to square one, that we don’t exercise our individual rights, but merely follow a “superior” leader.
I can’t tell you who to vote for, but you know who not to vote for, so any vote against tells a story. Even though the number is small, but the expressed voice will be heard.
yes many of my classmates are bochap – they say. just make money and shut up. they say whatever you do is not going to make any difference. they are afraid for their property prices (how successful this threat and brainwashing by PAP is!!). when their own flesh get poked by the PAPie needle perhaps they would think again. sigh…
If PAP reduces their Ministerial allowance from millions to 10% of it, I may consider voting for them.
Whether I vote for others depends on their credentials, else, I’ll just scrap my vote.
To Kojakbt on Wed, 3rd Feb 2010 4:19 pm
Quite apt.
It’s about people who want change during the French Revolution.
However, I just hope we don’t follow what the French did after that revolution.

“Between Osama or pap, I will vote osama!!!”
I’m not that desperate yet.
@citizenofSG on Wed, 3rd Feb 2010 4:24 pm
I would think that we should start by voting a few oppositions in first. The current 2, is a bit too few, and LTK and CST, as you had mentioned, had their drawbacks.
Maybe, if people like K Jayaratnam or Goh Meng Seng are voted in, we can then have a bigger pool of oppositions to see if one of them can emerge as the leader.
Enough is enough.
If Singaporeans don’t exercise their right to vote against the PAP in next election, I think these people should just stop complaining, I mean what is the point of “cry father cry mother” when you people vote for those MIW blood-suckers and give them the so-called 66.6% “mandate” for them to do whatever they want to deprive truly singaporeans for these FTs? All MIWs care is money and not whether you can afford to buy a HDB flat or are you able to have a job.
Ask yourself? Are you really that short-sighted when these MIWs dangled some carrots infront of you and immediately you forgotten the hardships that you suffered in past 4-5 years and voted for these jokers.
So what MIWs done in recent time after they achieved your “mandate”?
1) Increase GST from 5% to 7%
2) Setting up of ERP gantries all over Singapore
3) Increase of HDB flats price
4) Letting in more FTs into Singapore to snatch Singaporean jobs
All these are done without consulting Singaporeans cause they have your “mandate” to do whatever they want.
Singaporeans should wake up, please do not wait for another 5 years to cast votes against MIW. Take actions while it is still not too late.
What I want is A Singapore for Singaporeans.
I do not want a Singapore filled with PRCs, Indian Nationals, Pinoys, vietnamese, burmese and other FTs.
@citizenofSG
When pap first started they were all RAW meat (non of the ministers had any experience nor knowledge how to run a country), but now they turn into ROTTEN meat.
Do not give the benefit of a doubt to opposition parties, let them have a share of the pie, for singapore’s future is at stake now!
Anyway its time for a change too.
When any government holds on to their reigns to long, there are bound to have corruptions.
Their millions dollars paycheck is to cover up for any corruption cases in the event they are caught or questions on their assets & investments.
Most of the ministers were not born in singapore that is why they do not care for the future of singapore.
During the bubble times most of the malaysians had an upper hand in businesses in singapore.
“Good evening, London. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine- the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, thereby those important events of the past usually associated with someone’s death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn’t there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who’s to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn’t be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Old Bailey, to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you’ve seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot.”
(V for Vendetta, 2005)
I think we need to have more debate in Parliament – whether the opposition is capable or not is a separate issue. Without debate, the dominant Party may skim over issues and not think through fully like the FT / HDB problem now. Until we give the opposition a chance to enter Parliament, how do we know if they can or cannot perform?
Let’s say next time we have 30 Opposition MPs vs 52 PAP MPs.
Then the debate will definitely be very lively, and have a much higher quality than now. I am sure we all want that very much.
But with only 2 pitiful opposition MPs now, they are easily out-voiced by the 80+ majority.
Count on me too, Singapore! Count on me and my friends to vote against the emperor without clothes and all his little emperors!
Truth of the matter about Singaporeans is rightly put forth by RICO, a bunch of “Bor Chap” people. So if they can’t be bothered about their own fate, that’s a rather serious concern of a responsible citizenry especially since the Singaporeans have reached that high level of education in general
citizenofSG ,
at this desperate situation, it better to vote for the lesser devil (opp party), at least it provides a glimpse of hope, better than no hope. We can’t expect much from opp party just as we can’t expect much from ourselves who hide behind anonymity.
Just like Japanese invading China. The Chinese can either fight among themselves for justice, power and status first or they can choose to fight against the Japanese and drive those invaders out first.
So drive out the invaders first and let the new chapter begin from there and the rest is history. Otherwise chinese will become the extinct breed.
Put into Singapore perspective, let drive out PAP first, and let nature set its course, otherwise Singaporeans will be history. At least we can expect a new era and new hope.
There is some subtle difference between cowardice and misinformed.
I think most singaporeans are more misinformed than cowardly.
@ citizenofSG on Wed, 3rd Feb 2010 4:24 pm
My 2 cent worth…
As much as we want change, realistically we won’t see total victory from any opposition parties in the next one to two even three elections. The current OP’s already made their baby steps in the past but as of now it is still something like 82:2 so we have to continue that baby step and transform it into a breeze walk before we turn it into a full run.
So if there is any OP in my ward, I know what to do even if they are not ideal candidates, because that is the FIRST STEP we all must take even we knew we are stepping into an unknown terrain. Because only when the crack start to show, we can then pierce thru deeper the next time and the next time….
By weakening the absolute power, it will show that no party is invinsible and the progressive small scale victory will help induce more and more capable and passionate people to come forward to lead in the future.
Do not be intimidated and threatened, yes it will have challanges, it will have major hiccups, but it won’t collapse.
If we don’t put the first step out, nothing will change while we talk until the cow come home.
I read and agreed with a blogger “really independence” on a separate thread under “….letter to MM… “
What a great speech.
So “voice of citizen” are you going to join an opposition party and stand for election? Will you walk the talk? Can you at least reveal your name and NRIC number?
Probably not eh?
“voice of citizen” will type articles on the internet. when opposition politicians approach him he will shut his doors on their faces. come election day, if he gets to vote, he tells himself he will vote for the opposition because he wants change. that thought alones makes him shiver with fear. he can’t sleep for nights.
finally, he makes his way to the election booth and decides to vote for the “pap” anyway to “play it safe”
lol.
@citizenofSG
If you think ministers who can say things like “50 years freak event” and “increase of HDB price is a oversight” are “great leaders” then it is a sad thing.
They are easily replaceable by any Tom, Dick, Harry and life still goes on. So what is the different between voting a under-performing minister or an opposition who “bo-chup” you after he get into parliment?
Have you ever seen Potong Pasir & Hougang becoming a slum area since they are under opposition parties?
HDB wont go burst if MBT is voted out
You wont lose your job if GKY is booted out.
SPF will still remain if WKS loses his seat.
What is being bring across to Singaporeans is to cast against votes to express our concerns in the hope that this voice can be heard before it is too late.
I urge all Singaporeans to do it and not wait for another 5 years when your votes are easily replaces by those FTs whom MIW bringing in now with their “FT policy” to replace your votes. By then your votes are useless and worthless, because FTs will be so over-whelming that they are the majority and you are the minority. So don’t how you “cry father cry mother”, it will be turn to a deaf ear.
So do you want a situation like these? I certainly hope not if not it just like digging your own grave.
“Let’s say next time we have 30 Opposition MPs vs 52 PAP MPs.

Haha, at this number, the opp MPs may as well join the PAP because it will be all talk until the cow comes home, and yet the stupid and oppressive policy will still be implemented due to majority vote by PAP MPs.
朱门酒肉臭, 路有冻死骨 – Thanks to PAP!!
VOTE PAP OUT!!!!
@ Clueless on Need for Change
i agree!. We can’t expect opposition to succeed overnight. there will be teething problems, nut we must get them in. Not for the sake of getting opposition in, but to send a message to the current leadership that they have forgotten their purpose and to “help” them get back on track i.e. that they have a duty to all Singaporeans!

I am afraid you are wrong. Yes at that ratio laws can still be passed by the ruling party and yes they can pass even more laws with very questionable outcomes and yes they can still manipulate the system to their advantage. But, the ruling party has just lost 29 seats to opposition parties and if they still dare to propose bills and pass laws that have questionable benefits to the people what will happen to the next GE? Democracy must start from somewhere and if we keep on speculating whether it will work, whether opposition is capable enough or whether democracy will bring about chaos in other failed democracies, we will be still at status quo. We will still have to endure unjust laws, we still see influx of foreigners, we still have to endure subsistence level pay etc. Democracy is not perfect but please do not throw the baby out with the bathing water. It is the ‘best’ alternative to sn authoritarian regime. This GE may truly be our last chance before we are overwhelmed socially, politically, economically and financially by foreigners.

I have voted oppositions ever since I am eligible to vote.. The last time was GE2006 when I voted for the WP’s unknown against you-know-who… And I am still employed, sitting here typing this out..
Have all the 33% who voted oppositions disappeared without a trace?
PAP is not Singapore. Singapore belongs to Singaporeans. The PAP is supposed to work for Singaporeans but failed to show their compassion and empathize with ordinary singaporeans. Yes we must vote them out!
In my point of view, Singaporeans are not cowards. Just self-centered.
That’s why MIW is in power for so many years. Majority of Singaporeans vote for MIW, because of the carrots MIW like to dangle.
My only concern are these self-centered Singaporeans. As they are willing to put up with so much crap, as long as their money making ways are not affected.
Obama campaigned during the presidential election that he’d bring “change.” Did he? Yes, talking is easier said than done like what the author of this article thought.
Even after one year in office, Obama still couldn’t deliver his promises. His popularity plunged because he couldn’t solve his country chronic unemployment. The Democrats lost a big blue Democrat state, Massachusetts, and put their long fought Health Care Bill in jeopardy for they lost the sixty votes needed to prevent the Republicans from filibustering and getting it voted by the senators.
So do tell me, author of the article, should I vote the PAP out and vote for some people who promise me “change” like what Obama told those gullible Americans? Did they see any change after one year? No sir, no change, it’s still the same old, same old for the Americans. So should we change our government just because many of us lost our jobs and it allows too many FT’s into the country? Does our government have control over our exporting trade or is it controlled by overseas customers? The answers for all these questions are negative except for the last one.
So wake up author of the above article, you’re the one that needs to be woke up and not us. Yes, we know we’re having a tough time because of the global economic meltdown. Yes, we consider ourselves lucky that we’re still in good shape financially. Yes, we weather it like the way we weathered the Asian crises because of a smart and responsible government. Yes, we are surviving or we would be in deep shit like Greece, Portugal and Spain who are near bankruptcy.
And be kind enough to tell us who among the Singapore opposition has the savvy and vision of LKY for us to vote for him? Also, please do tell us whether he could guarantee to continue with our success and prosperity? Could he guarantee that we won’t never face the same situation like what those unfortunate Haitians are facing now? No home, no food, no medicine and no water and become an international beggar. Or worse still, become the fourteen state of Malaysia and 70% of us becoming second class citizens. And instead of enjoying an efficient corruption free administration, we’ve to grease palms in every govt dept to get things done? What if we were to be that unfortunate as to have another Tun Lim Ewe Hock or a Lim Chin Siong taking over LKY’s position, would we still be able to enjoy the same standard of living, the second highest after Japan? You can called it seized mentality as some clever opposition party people like to say about this scenario but please don’t fool yourself thinking that it won’t happen if we do have an irresponsible govt. Would our brand name which we built so laboriously stay intact or would it get a “heart attack” and scare away foreign investors? And many of us would be without a job. And what if our 200 mil neighbors really turn nasty and unfriendly to take advantage of a disunited nation and do another “Konfrontasi” to “repossess” Singapore?
Yes, so who should wake up, you the author of the article or us, the thinking Singaporeans?
i have voted for opposition in Jalan besar GRC for the last 2 elections ever since i get to exercise my right to vote.
Unfortunately,Jalan besar GRC has more elderly who support PAP, thus my vote was drowned out. If opposition comes again this election, i will not hesistate to vote for them again even i know my vote may not make much difference.
But,die die must try,if you don’t try,you don’t even have a chance to restore justice to singapore!
@citizenofsg U pap crony or task by your PAP master to come here and sprout the same old tired propaganda.
Indeed voiding your vote is as good as voting for PAP. No 2 ways to argue about that. Simply because the MSMs fully controlled by PAP will manage to con sillyporeans to vote their way, while the opposition do not have such luxury thereby its very effective and most definite that spoiling your vote is EQUALs to voting for PAP.
@Citizenofsg Goh Keng Swee, Teh Cheang Wan and many many others had never wanted a life in politics nor were they born to be politician. They learnt the ropes. The new and current batch of ministers have shown that they are totally out of otuch with reality. Their losses in Suzhou, Liaoning, Stuyvesant town amongst many others, including spouting insults upon singaporeans time n time again, ERP to control traffic? You still get traffic jams BUT you still pay the ERP!! Shouldn’t it be scrap then? or a better alternative? Aren’t they paid MILLIONS because they are so elite so smart that they can think of solutions? The opposition HAS NO NEED nor obligation to help the PAP in solving their OWN created problems.
The PAP has paid themselves highly, boast and pat their own backs, they talk but are not able to walk the talk. They are effectively THIEVES, stealing ‘above board’ from the public and giving lame excuses for all wrong doings. From Mas Selamat to Rise of HDB prices to Influx of foreigners, ERP, the list goes on.
So the question is, since WE here can give you irrefutable proof that this bunch of PAP people are THIEVES, Charlatans and self fulfilling people 100% guaranteed not good for Singapore, compare them to a taxi uncle, bus driver, ex convict, an animal like a dog/cat/donkey/sheep, who would u vote for?
50% the taxi uncle, bus driver, ex convict etc may cheat us EVEN MORE than the PAP.
50% they can do even better than the PAP.
I’d go for the 50%. Because even if they CAN’T make things better, surely they can’t get worse than if I allow PAP to continue to rule as they wish.

To Paikia, why people like you never compare us with Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea?? Singapore under LKY is just a sweatshop for MNCs – what’st the big deal? Do we own the intellectual property? No. Are we subject to their whims if they should decide to withdraw and go to a cheaper place one day? Yes. So who engineered this? LKY. Who lost billions of our reserves? And how do you know there is no corruption in the administration? With a government-muzzled media who is going to inform you if there is corruption and conflicts of interests? You call a government who loses BILLIONS of our reserves without batting an eyelid AND still pay themselves millions RESPONSIBLE? Give us a break lah!!
just remember this – everytime PAP won an electon, everything from transport, utilities bill, ERP, GST etc etc will increase imediately after that. Not the first time, many many times before. Hope Singporean can woke up this time!
Hi Paikia1, here you go again. you are here either to self praise? spread fear? or speak for your master? Please go read up from this site to learn more about your master who are the greatest chameleon of all time. By the way, are you also the one who always bring up the Air Force One whenever there is some salary comparison between here and the USA?
I think you are either one of them in their system, or totally brain washed or not awake in the past decades.
http://leewatch.info/quotes/
Majority of Singaporeans will continue to return the PAP with overwhelming wins. Like to complains only. When the MIW starts handouts like shares, promises hundreds millions to upgrade their HDB estate, the forbidable GRC system, threats, 100% control media, new pool of large FT and citizens, and cooling period and all the massive propaganda campaign to project as the patriotic and sincere party will do all the easy tricks on the majority of Singaporeans who are so scared, It is scary.

i never said that people will dissapear that is absurd. things like that only happen in facist states under one party autocratic rule where dissidents and opposition members are constantly harressed.
and er..that is not singapore.
Hi Paikia1,
by the way, I am a true blue singaporean who used to be on your side but not anymore. Take heed, those who were not with you in the past will never be with you, those who sit on the fence probably have jumped to the other side by now, your last group like me are no longer on your side.
In my humble opinion, given the humongous amounts of challenges he face, it takes time and Obama is doing great. Most importantly, he is much much more righteous national leader compared with ours. why? you are a smart, well educated, world connected person, I don’t have to tell you those actions he has pushed to implement. So please don’t compare him with ours.
Students are so bloody apathatic and politically ignorant. When I told them that PAP is corrupt this is their ans…
” Well, at least the opposition will be more corrupted…”
Maybe it has something to do with “Social Studies”…
To Paikia1,
I forgot to mention one more thing, Obama lead by example. that example may not be significant compared with their GDP but it is an excellent example. You know what’s that. I am sure you know.
Concerned Citizen
5th November is Guy Fawkes Day, which is being celebrated in some parts of Britain. I remember when I was a kid during our colonial days and the British elements stationed here also celebrated this day by lighting a huge bonfire (off Alexandra area – somewhere along present Ayer Rajah Expressway behind Alexandra Hospital). I was enthralled by it but could not understand the significance behind this commemorated ceremony being only a kid back then.
However, upon growing older I always make it a point to read up on whatever things or events of significance which I may have come across that stir my imagination and interests.
Just for the information for the uninformed, Guy Fawkes was involved in the 1605 Gunpowder Plot to blow up the British Parliament in the hope of killing King James I who had been an intolerant king, especially to the Caholics. Unfortunately due to a travesty of injustice the plot was discovered owing to a warning letter that was sent out based on good intentions which was intercepted by the king’s men.
On that fateful day, of the 13 men involved in the conspiracy, Guy Fawkes was the only one still in the cellar of parliament house with 36 barrels of explosives when the authorities stormed the place in the wee hours of the morning. He was caught, tortured, and subsequently executed (poor chap).
Ever since then, some quarters have been observing that fateful day, which started as a celebration to honour the blessing on the safety of the king, but has since over the centuries turned into an event of disrepute – some people are still doing it, but to honour and celebrate Guy Fawke’s attempt instead, as a form of manifestation in their desire to do away with the royalty in Britain.
Hope the above piece of short but true story may have provided some interesting reading to you or some of our other readers at this forum.
Regards.
Maybe we too need to light a bonfire on 5th November to send a clear message to LKY ?
■Clueless on Need for Change on Wed, 3rd Feb 2010 5:08 pm
I think we need to have more debate in Parliament – whether the opposition is capable or not is a separate issue. Without debate, the dominant Party may skim over issues and not think through fully like the FT / HDB problem now. Until we give the opposition a chance to enter Parliament, how do we know if they can or cannot perform?
The problem here is that the ruling party dare not telecast the parliamentary debate ‘live’ on national TV, if it’s been on ‘live’ telecast then the people will be able to know who is the real devil behind all these political cover ups. This is a very smart move by the ruling party not to telecast the parliarmentary debates ‘live’to the public. If those members of the ruling party is so good as they claimed themselves to be, why dare not let the public know whats been discussed? the reason is too obvious, right? anyone disagree?
This is the BEST place on the planet.
Vote PAP out?
You must be crazy.
We don’t have to go far. Just check out or live in one of the other 10 ASEAN countries.
Unemployment, starvation or discrimination.
Don’t believe me. Check it out personally.

just remember this – everytime PAP won an electon, everything from transport, utilities bill, ERP, GST etc etc will increase imediately after that. Not the first time, many many times before. Hope Singporean can woke up this time!
Don’t forget all the ERP gantries (blood sucking machines) along KPE are ready to be turn-on as soon as the ruling party managed to get another mandate this coming GE, but again we all will be the men-dead in the street . . . . . singaporeans never never learn from past mistake . . .tsk tsk tsk!!!
If the docile japanese electorate can vote out the incumbent who controlled their lives and manipulated them for 56 years there is no reason why Singaporeans is unable to do the sameto the PAP…..the Freak Flood in 51 years is overdue……Let the freak flood wash away the world’s most expensive politicians in the next GE
as reported last year alone, the total revenue collected by the present ruling govt through taxpayers is some $30billions and wow thats really really alot alot of money and I believe the figure would be much higher after the election, yes much higher is needed from the way those MIW would rule the nation.
There are many Singaporeans who voted for PAP during the election. Less the 30% who constantly support PAP for whatever their personal reasons, stake in the PAP etc, the fence sitters are split into 3 classes (each class harder to convince than the next):
1. The ignorant (can be helped by giving them information)
2. The apathetic (telling them they have a stake in the making of the nation)
3. The intimidated (have to convince them that nothing of harm will come to them by taking a leap of faith to vote the opposition)
More efforts are needed to win these people to vote for opposition… The future of Singapore depends on how hard its citizens push for democracy before the next general election.
Yes, stand together, speakup & vote out this one-party government that’s in power for too long! PAP complacency & focus on the elite/best/smartest/brightest, is going to hurt fellow S’poreans, the heartlanders. We must act & not remain ignorant & blindsided by this 1-party government anymore!
to Paikia1
Our views differ but i will defend your right to your view…. do let the PAP know that and try to practice that.
Obama does have many challenges, (he inherited bush’s war and financial mess) i would say more so that our leaders, as according to their take, this down-turn is due to the global economy… so why the obscene pay? if anything bad is due to external factors then the justification for these pay packages are nonsense…
Accountability… if they want high pay then have to be accountable… i don’t see that here. read Mas Selamat, GIC, Temasek….
You are fear mongering… do u really think Singapore will deteriorate more then it have already if more opposition get elected? Do u think the oppositions are trying to bring the nation down? My views differs, i think it takes courage and passion to stand out and put oneself out for persecution. I sincerely belief that having a credible opposition will be better for the majority… rather then the status quo.. Name me a great nation with no credible opposition and i will name u many more that thrives because of it.
Deity of Conflict
That was indeed funny.

(quote) U pap crony or task by your PAP master to come here and sprout the same old tired propaganda.(unquote)
Who me a PAP crony? Are you crazy?
(quote)Indeed voiding your vote is as good as voting for PAP. No 2 ways to argue about that. Simply because the MSMs fully controlled by PAP will manage to con sillyporeans to vote their way, while the opposition do not have such luxury thereby its very effective and most definite that spoiling your vote is EQUALs to voting for PAP.(unquote)
Did I say anything about voiding my vote?
(quote)Goh Keng Swee, Teh Cheang Wan and many many others had never wanted a life in politics nor were they born to be politician. The opposition HAS NO NEED nor obligation to help the PAP in solving their OWN created problems.(unquote)
What are you burbling?
(quote)The PAP has paid themselves highly, boast and pat their own backs, they talk but are not able to walk the talk.
Because even if they CAN’T make things better, surely they can’t get worse than if I allow PAP to continue to rule as they wish.(unquote)
What are trying to tell me?
I think you have a drop too much of drink.
Surge in new members: YP
THE youth wing of the People’s Action Party (PAP) saw a surge in new members last year, with more than 1,000 joining its ranks.

THREE Chinese youths aged between 17 and 18 years have been arrested for posting racist remarks on ‘Facebook’, a popular social networking website.
Under the Sedition Act, anyone found guilty of promoting feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Singapore can be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to three years, or both, if convicted.
Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Teo Chun Ching said: ‘Police take a very stern view of acts that could threaten the social harmony in Singapore. The Internet may be a convenient medium to express one’s views but members of the public should bear in mind that they are no less accountable for their actions online.’
I think you got it wrong.
Singaporeans are ready for change.
We are eager to effect change now.
We can’t help it if they are scared of holding the elections now.
I will VOTE OPPOSITION..
ANY OPPOSITION …
So long as I get a chance to vote !!!
No confidence in either. Both, evidentially, are pro-Chinese. Not by what is said, but what is often left unsaid. Thank you, but no thanks. I’ll vote for mickey mouse instead, like i did in the presidential elections a couple of decades back.
The difference between ‘being sensitive’ and ‘being appreciative’:

Till there is more of the latter….
Would be refreshing to hear some robust solutions or propositions from TR participants rather than the same old grumbles and propaganda.
Much is at stake in this increasingly competitive and globalised world.
Shit Times also published an articles in the forum page – Singapore without PAP. Who cares, I am a Singaporeans and I am confident that Singapore will make it even without PAP. It is the peope of Singapore that build this country – NOT PAP. Life will be improved and the earth still goes round, we want the next generation to be aware of PAP greeds, and teach them that our forefathers build this country together with their sons and daughters. If we continue to be flooded by foreigners whether progessively or sustaining it, Singaporeans will soon dissappear miserably. So what BIG DEAL is PAP? Have Singaporeans not suffered enough to continue to believe that PAP presence can bring happiness, are we truly happy since the last election and the years before that?
COUNT ME IN, VOTE PAP OUT!!
Before you decided whether PAP is important in your life. Please ask yourselves this question alone – are you richer now or poorer. If you are poorer than the answer to vote PAP out is clear – no more further question.

Maybe we too need to light a bonfire on 5th November to send a clear message to LKY ?
I am pleasantly surprise to see someone here understood the significance of 5th of November! After spending years in Britain I must say not even the English celebrate this day nowadays. You see the little speech I quoted above is from the movie V from Vendetta (2005). Although it is about a fictitious UK in the future but the theme is universally applied to oppression. The character V is correct that no regime can survive if it does not have the quiet obedience of its cowed populace. The people can pretend that they do not see the wrongs around them and carry on living blissfully ignorant and be abused by the regime again and again ot they can all stand up and shout enough! It is after all the choice of the individual. No one can force you of you do not want to voice dissent. However if you have any conscience and morality you would recognise that there is something very wrong with our society. Why do I have to tolerate unfair policies and laws being forced down my throat? Why do I need to say yes to everything expounded in the media? Why do I need to meekly accept my job being taken away by cheaper foreigners? Like V said, if you see what I see, if you feel what I feel and if you seek as I seek, we will make the coming GE that PAP will never forget! Have a good evening fellow countrymen and women. May your conscience guide you on polling day.
To passer-by,
There are plenty of “propositions” here and all over the web if you look but does this government listen? First is to vote in more opposition for a start What is the point of proposing “robust solutions” ad nauseum if the government steamrolls everything because it has been given a “strong mandate”???? Some Singaporeans are really the silliest people in the world because they pay their politicians millions and then can’t wait to do their dirty work for them!!
I am Singaporean and I am no coward. I am prepared to look EVIL in the face and do what is right and necessary. The right vote is perhaps the most important choice I will ever make in this life. I will make the right choice.
For those who think we have no credible opposition, what makes you think PAP is any better.
PAP is killing Singapore with all their wrong policies, and these morons continue to plunder her coffers by enriching themselves with million dollars salary, and continue to lose the billions of her reserves. And giving hardship to her people by opening the floodgates to foreign trash and discard from 3rd world countries !
We must VOTE the PAP stooges out and save Singapore !!
I will not only vote for the Opposition but will tell all my friends, relatives and colleagues to do so.
We must save Singapore from the PAP dogs !!
Singapore will not have a future if PAP continues their tyrant rule !!!
To Jack Lim on Wed, 3rd Feb 2010 11:05 pm :
“This is the BEST place on the planet ?
- Yes without PAP it will be.
“Vote PAP out?”
- Yes before PAP ruins Singapore !
“You must be crazy.”
- We must be crazy Not to vote the PAP donkeys out !
- We must be crazy to let these morons continue to sink Singapore.
“We don’t have to go far. Just check out or live in one of the other 10 ASEAN countries.”
- But we pay these PAP ministars millions of dollars and in return they promised us Swiss standards of living !!
- So if want to compare, be fair and compare with Switzerland, Norway, Sweden … etc.
Go check out other first world countries and see how far Singapore is behind !! Don’t be a frog in the well and feed only on PAP shitty propaganda !!
To motivate others here on why we should make a change of Singapore’s rather stifled political atmosphere. I list a few questions:
- Do you want to know how much national reserves is left?
- How much did GIC and Temasek Holdings lost over the last 10 years?
- Who is accountable for the purported losses?
- Was public funds used for grassroot / political activities?
- What is the real percentage of PR to citizen ratio and the breakdown of nationalities of immigrants?
- What is the real cost of healthcare in Singapore and how much is really subsidised?
- How much is the real cost per unit of HDB apartment?
- How many percent profit HDB made from sales of HDB apartments?
- What is the actual function of grassroot?
- What benefits do grassroot leader gets?
- What other ’skeletons’ are in the closet over the last 4 decades?
Do you want to know these questions? If you do and with the current number of opposition MPs in the parliament that is impossible to force the setting up of independent investigating committee for audits. You may ask why such questions got to do with me? It have everything to do with your job prospects, the planning of economic strategies that reflect realities, your retirement and healthcare and lastly the accounting of any abuse of the system. So ask yourself, is democracy that useless? Of course there are many failed democracies and they can be traced to corruptions. But there are many more democracies thrive and prospered like Switzerland and the Nordic states. However no authoritarian states last very long and it is a historical fact. Democracy is not perfect like any man-made political theory but it allows constant rejuvenation and innovation because it does not centre around an individual or political entity. If this administration does not perform up to expectation of the people and is against the nation’s interests it can be peacefully and smoothly changed during elections. So before anyone dismissed democracy as chaotic and God forbid against Asian values, rationally ponder the above questions and decide for yourself what kind of system do you want yourself and your children to live and thrive in?

“SIR DI YA ! Keep still there !
Sergeant Major, please do the headcount now and account for any causality and loss.”
Anyway, I doubt these boys visit TR. On the whole, readers and commentators are the better lot.
Yohoo. Where is Robox ? Search party, anyone ?
A call for Singaporeans not to cast a vote for opposition based on rising public housing price.
Looks like the Government knows that this is a raw nerve.
They may not want to do anything to address our concern.
Issue a directive not to vote for opposition.
After election, hdb price can go up again.

I’ll tell you what is wrong with the PAP government.
The minsters are damned bloody switched-off. They wake up only during election year and then realize that everything has gone wrong with the country. They then set up so-called high powered committees to resolve the problem and also activate the propaganda machine to help them win votes. After the election, they will go back to sleep earning the undeserved millions without even lifting a finger to help ordinary citizens.
To a fucked-up govt like this, there is only one solution. Throw them into the dustbin of history, close the lid and dump it into the open sea. That’s where they belong.
@ Jack Lim
I am not sure when was the last time you’ve been to KL or Bangkok, but personally , I find these 2 cities a much better place to live than your so called “best place in the Universe”!!!
As a matter of fact, I am now living in KL and wish I do not have to be posted back to Singapore anytime soon, and I wouldn’t mind to be here forever!
Gentlemen & possibly some ladies,
The past six months had been very hectic for me to turn on the computer read the frustrations of Loyal Singaporeans,Caring Singaporeans, Anti PAP/Singapore and Pro PAP/Singapore supporters.Whatever the case may be, this is the only country true blue Singaporeans have, with no where else to go should it fail.
My concern from day one is where do we go from here, the current Cabinet consists of a bunch of GUTLESS men beholden to whoever or whatever with a few capable but unable to table what they truly believe in without being shot down or worse still removed with just one word from “CHIEF THUNDERCLOUD” so named by Devan.
Like I mentioned when I became a little IT savvy to put in the net my 2 cts for my country and fellow countrymen. I sincerely hope I have done my part and now depart from the scene to truly enjoy my humble retirement with my family who needs my attention more than the computer which seem to have a devilish hold on you night & day according to my wife.
I wish Singapore and all my fellow Singaporeans the GOOD,BAD & UGLY well and hope that the new WORLD ORDER will help put Singapore in order especially for the poor, elderly and sick.
The PAP especially LEE KUAN YEW should dig deep into the recess of their brilliant minds and ask what have they really done for this little REDDOT and its people who doggedly rushed to their side each time they were call upon to do so and now left by the wayside in order to accommodate their selfish and egotistical needs.
I have no reason to believe that Singapore will not survive without the PAP,as a worse case scenario lets all sing Negaru Ku again. At least we are 2nd class citizen with a bigger space to romp and tanah ubi should the situation arise.
I now bow out gracefully and wish one ans all the best of everything with the “BEST IS YET TO COME”.
PeterL @ peterliudp@gmail.com no longer exist as from today.
May GOD-ALLAH & all super beings Bless Singapore forever AMEN.

Yes, Obama election promise is Change, he has yet to achieve it. The people vote him in even he is inexperience but gives him the chance , if he fail to deliver the people can the decide if they want him to continue for another term , that is democracy. Obama cannot change any policy overnight or pay himself millions. He has to put his policy to the people and the congress and senate.
@Yes, we consider ourselves lucky that we’re still in good shape financially. Yes, we weather it like the way we weathered the Asian crises because of a smart and responsible government.
