MM Lee on yet another overseas trip
From our Correspondent
Singapore’s indefatigable octagenarian leader MM Lee Kuan Yew will be making another overseas trip from 21 October to 31 October, this time to New York and Washington DC.
In New York, he will have meetings with the Council on Foreign Relations and business leaders.
In Washington DC, he will meet several Secretaries, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke, Director of the National Economic Council Lawrence Summers and other senior members of the Obama Administration. He will also meet President of the World Bank Robert Zoellick.
MM Lee had just returned from a trip to the United Kingdom, Russia and Armenia in September.
Other trips MM Lee had made in 2009:
2 to 6 June: United Kingdom
9 to 17 June: Malaysia
19 to 27 May: Japan and China

Mr Lee was Singapore’s first Prime Minister from 1959 to 1990 after which he assumed the position of Senior Minister from 1991 to 2003.
He became Minister Mentor when his successor Mr Goh Chok Tong relinquished the position in 2003 and became Senior Minister.
It is not known who made the decision on such appointments. Singapore is the only country in the world with two former prime ministers remaining in the cabinet.
While proponents of the Singapore “system” of giving senior leaders a continued prominent role in the government claim that it helps to ensure political stability, critics are of the view that it will lead to over-concentration of power in the hands of a few.
When Rudy Giuliani tried to run for New York’s mayorship again for a third term after his failed presidential bid, he was dissuaded by his own supporters from doing so: “How can we ever miss you if you never leave?,” they exclaimed.
MM Lee just celebrated his 86th birthday and he still shows no intentions or signs of retiring. It is highly likely he will participate in the next general election to be held by 2011.
Even in communist China, there is an age limit of 70 imposed on leaders in the powerful Politburo Standing Committee, the highest-decision making body of the country.
Former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping voluntarily resigned from the Politburo in the 1980s. His successor Jiang Zemin also stepped down in 1997. China’s present President Hu Jintao is expected to relinquish his position in 2013.
It remains to be seen if the elder Lee will be missed by Singaporeans after he had finally bowed out of the political scene.

NEVER!! He will rise from his grave to be DM (the dead minister)
…and we will have another Minister Mentos and possible 3-4 more Senile Ministers to hand hold our prime minister if the quality of our ministers and prime minster continues to trend downwards.
Hooray, it cheap to spend another 50-60 millions to retain such brain power and to prevent them from feeling the itch to be corrupted.
He is stretching his credibility and overstaying his welcome, isn’t he ??
He has already made a fool of himself to Singaporeans, does he need to make a fool of himself to foreign leaders ??
It’s time for the son to tell his father that the Old Man is grossly overpaid and should not be wasting more tax payers’ money by his senseless, useless overseas trips.
Get him to realise that he IS a liability NOT a credit to Singapore.
Best of all, tell him to Get Lost.
the appropriate other country for comparison should not be communist china. it should be north korea!
aiya.. old people wanna go out jalan jalan, let them b lor. lucky at his age he can still walk.
it’s not like he helping us. the last i remember, each time they help us, we end up paying more.
but so far, they go jalan jalan no extra charge. so let it be lor.
I dont think this Old Man will ever want to resign, will be in Power till he drop dead.
At 86 still drawing $millions pay per year, ordinary singaporeans at age 50 cut in CPF contribution from employer and after age 55 cut in pay.
Can tell us folks its better to have low low salary than no job.many folks here earns only a few hundred dollars a month. This FamiLee I think their 1 day expenses can feed a poor Family for months.
This Old Hack, got big fat pay increase and all the Vip treatment and travel round the world all the time, just to talk cock.
Where is the Justice man.
Do U know when a perosn die, nothing can stand up, accept this “Cock stand Up”. This show that he will die of cock standing.
i can see that mr lky is the only mm rank in the world that travel so much. instead our pm is base sin mostly.
When political leaders stay in power beyond their welcome, they are not interested in leaving a legacy but more interested in increasing their loot.
Nevertheless, he has probably become the butt of jokes amongst the world political leaders.
If the future DM (dead minister) rises from his grave, I’m sure many Singaporeans will kick him back into his grave. With his superb genes, how come he produced a sissy son? This sissy son’s workload and travels seem to be less than his father. Born loser!
It is very ironic to see much hatred on MM LKY on cyberspace.
Any person in power is impossible to be loved by everyone, there will always some who felt injustice or unfairness, simply put jealousy.
It is quite impossible for one to make decisions basis on how much he will be loved. A leader is not made so.
Nothing like a personal invitation to all and sundry to his burial ceremony when it comes.

I think you guys should read this article. Make me laugh.
i dont think the comments of hatred of lky by netizen is fair. if mm lky think he has contribute so much to sin. then let the next pm handle the job well. even if it is his son. by not retiring and continue to draw super scale salary and even going around talking to the world. it does not help his son to built an image . his son will continue to live under lky shadow.
Use your brains lah. Those bad write-ups are written by envious foreigners and clones (i.e. replicating themselves using psedonynms).
People are simply jealous that we are doing so well. The BEST in ASEAN and only second BEST in ASIA.
Human nature lah. They hope we’ll join their ranks lah.
We’ll look at results in comparison with OTHERS. Thank you.

Hasn’t he gone back to visit the rock under which he crawled out from?
How come those blockheads who write nasty things abt MM are not invited by world leaders or foreign CEOs to lecture them.
Read MM is headed for the States today to collect a prestigious award in his honor.
Those bigtimers must be darn stupid fools to do such a thing. Why don’t they invite Yodo, Najib, Singh, etc. Really wonder. Don’t need a good brain, right?
Eat your hearts out. You envious & jealous immortals.
Hunger & starvation may bring you faster to your grave when you curse others. We all know that without MM there will be no Singapore today. Maybe singapura a state of Malaysia!
##Personal Invitation to his Burial Ceremony on Wed, 21st Oct 2009 12:32 pm
“Nothing like a personal invitation to all and sundry to his burial ceremony when it comes”.
The National Stadium will be spilled over.
We’ll be fighting amongst ourslves to fill the stadium just to give him a sending off and to make sure that he dosen’t rise from his 6 x 2 ever again.
We’ll be sad for his son and the MIWs but we will rejoice and celebrate for Singapore.
Fire crackers will boomz boomz throughout the night.
“Why don’t they invite Yodo, Najib, Singh, etc. Really wonder. Don’t need a good brain, right?”
At various times, leaders of countries visit one another and to receive diplomatic awards etc. Of course, one must have the free time and inclination like MM LKY.
As to why USA has invited MM Lee “…and receive the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award from the US-ASEAN Business Council” because Temasek and GIC has been such benefactors to the US banks to the tune of BILLIONS in recent years.
I wonder if upon meeting Ben Bernanke, Lawrence Summers, Robert Zollick and other members of the Obama administraion what would be the topic of conversation?
Its all on taxpayers’ expense. Why not make full
use of it before he kick the bucket.
All these overpaid CBLs,(Prez, MM, SM M w/o portfolios etc)
are a waste of taxmonies their obscene pay should be use to help poor citizens.
If he had really retired that he said would 20 years ago,
I would bid him a fond farewell.
Tomorrow if he would say that again, I would say
“Good riddance and get lost”
don curse lah…really don curse lah. tis kind of ting very ‘xie men’ one…don want curses to boomerang, rite?
fwah… anyhow say bad things about the old man. wait tio lightning strike deh.

“How come those blockheads who write nasty things abt MM are not invited by world leaders or foreign CEOs to lecture them.”
Because those blockheads don’t have their hands on $250 Billion of YOUR money, stupid. Rub the old dickhead’s vanity a bit and with a bit of luck he’ll throw away another $100b – just like he did last year.
“Other trips MM Lee had made in 2009:
2 to 6 June: United Kingdom
9 to 17 June: Malaysia
19 to 27 May: Japan and China”
2010: MANDAI. Crematorium.
to correct hoot
2010: the old man want his body deep frozen so that they can revive him when the technology is there. he wants to live forever.
