Pastor Derek Hong contradicts himself in his statement on Aware connection
By Eugene Yeo
In the statement from Church of Our Savior on Aware connection released on 30 April 2009, Pastor Derek Hong blamed the media “creating the perception” that his church was behind the move to take over AWARE.
He claimed that “Church of Our Saviour did not initiate or instigate any campaign to take over the leadership of AWARE.”
However, it was widely known and acknowledged that it was Dr Thio Su Mien, the “feminist mentor” from COOS who sent out emails attached with the AWARE application form a few weeks beforethe AGM on 28 March 2009 imploring fellow Christians to sign up for its membership and cast a vote to change its direction.
It is not a surprise that 6 of the office holders of AWARE are from COOS. In fact, many of the new members who voted at the AGM for the first time might be from COOS too.
Is Dr Thio getting in her own individual capacity as a “concerned” parent or is she receiving tacit support from the church?
If COOS is not involved in the leadership grab in Aware, Pastor Hong should have distanced himself from the actions of Josie Lau and her team. Instead, he called on his congregation during a sermon last Saturday to lend support to them:
“We are in a season where things are being shaken. As a church, we believe in what the ladies are doing and Alan of course is part of the process as well and so we want to just lift them up for what the Devil is trying to do, God will turn it in the glory of its name.” (read full article here)
Obviously Pastor Hong believed in and supported the take over of Aware. It’s hard to believe that he has no prior knowledge of the plan hatched by members of COOS to seize control of the organization to push its own religious agenda into mainstream society.
Pastor Hong denied that that “the exco is a pawn of the church or that it has intentions to turn it into a religious organization”.
If this is indeed the case, why is he, as a non-member of Aware, interfering in its EGM by encouraging people to join Aware to support the new team?
In a weekend sermon posted on its website, Pastor Derek Hong urged the women in his flock to ‘be engaged’ and support Ms Lau and ‘her sisters’ at Aware. (read article here)
Isn’t asking COOS members to join Aware en masse with the sole intention of supporting Josie Lau tantamount to converting it to a pseudo-religious organization which is closely affliated to COOS?
During the same sermon last Saturday, he told a crowd of 5,000, he compared homosexuals to thiefs, drunkards and liars:
“No where in the bible is homosexuality condoned. Every time the practice of homosexuality is mentioned, there is strong prohibition and judgement, right through the bible. At the same time, it is very clear that homosexual practice is not seen as the worst kind of sin, in fact God doesn’t grade sins, all sin is sin. So homosexuality is like other wrongdoings like idolators, thiefs, drunkards, liars are included in the same breath as homosexual offenders.”
In fact, he had lashed out against homosexuals and the “agenda” of gay activists several times in the past to the extent of demonizing them as being “used by Satan” to destroy the Church which contradicts his statement that his church has no agenda against homosexuals (listen to his speeches here)
Pastor Hong promised that he will not allow his pulpit to be used to intentionally teach anything that would arouse social tensions, divisions and unrest.
Unfortunately, his open call to stop Singapore from “crossing the line drawn by God” is discomforting and intimidating to those who do not share his belief:
“It’s not a crusade against the people but there’s a line that God has drawn for us, and we don’t want our nation crossing that line.”
Does Pastor Hong know that Singapore is a multi-racial and multi-cultural country and the “line” God has drawn for Christians does apply to non-believers? So how can he use the name of Singapore to defend his “crusade” against the sexual minorities?
There are many Singaporeans out there who do not share his views that homosexuality is a sin which must be corrected at all cost.
If Pastor Hong is really sincere in keeping COOS out of Aware’s internal affairs, he should issue the following statements to publicly dissociate the church from Aware and its new exco:
1. COOS does not support or endorse the actions of its members, namely Josie Lau and the other 5 exco members of Aware.
2. While COOS remain steadfast in its belief on homosexuality based on the Bible, it will not seek to impose or propagate it in mainstream society.
3. COOS members should sign up for Aware membership at their own discretion. The Church does not encourage or discourage members from serving in secular NGOs.
The official statement from COOS is in reality a hollow statement bereft of any meaning or importance until COOS stop mobilizing its members to influence the outcome of Aware’s EGM.
It is nothing more than another ploy of Pastor Hong to deflect intense public pressure from COOS and to buy himself some precious time.
The target audience of his message is not the public, but the authorities to allay their suspicions and concerns of his real motives.
Perhaps Pastor Hong is aware of Chapter XV of the Penal Code:
- Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony
298A. Whoever ––
- (a) by words, either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise, knowingly promotes or attempts to promote, on grounds of religion or race, disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious or racial groups; or
- (b) commits any act which he knows is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different religious or racial groups and which disturbs or is likely to disturb the public tranquility,
shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.

Pastor Hong is running on borrowed time and this latest PR stunt may prove too late to convince the public that he is no threat to Singapore’s multi-racial and multi-religious society.

these are clowns lacking of attention
if they feel so strongly to give back to the society, start a new group and promote what they believe.
hyprocrite
According to Pastor Hong, the bibles states: “So homosexuality is like other wrongdoings like idolators, thiefs, drunkards, liars are included in the same breath as homosexual offenders.”
Hmm….I have many “idols” of deities on my home altar. Will my family be executed..i mean…persecuted..if the fundies achieve their aim of a “Christian Nation”?
ISD may want to invite Pastor Derek to a “limp kopi” session
The error is … the “line” God has drawn for Christians does NOT apply to non-believers?

Hundreds in HK complain Bible too sexual in apparent protest of obscenity ruling
2007-05-17 05:48:47 THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
HONG KONG, May 17 (AP) — More than 1,700 people have complained to Hong Kong regulators that the Bible is overly sexual and violent, apparently to mock a recent ruling condemning a sex survey in a student newspaper.
The Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority said Thursday it had received 1,766 complaints since the launch of an anonymous Web site detailing sexual and violent content in the Bible.
The site and the deluge of complaints were sparked by last week’s decision by regulatory authorities to classify a university student journal as “indecent.”
“Student Press,” published by students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, was condemned by the Obscene Articles Tribunal for including a sex survey that asked readers whether they had fantasized about incest and bestiality.
The anonymous Web site — which claims to be authored by “a Hong Kong student” — says the holy book contains passages far more disturbing than the sex survey.
The Chinese-language Web site quotes lengthy Biblical passages containing scenes of rape, incest and cannibalism. It also includes a sample of a complaint letter, which it encourages readers to copy and submit to authorities.
“The Bible not only has incest, its obscenity far exceeds the university journal,” the Web site said, after referencing last weeks regulatory decision.
The Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority referred the journal to the obscenity tribunal last week, after receiving more than 20 complaints. The authority said Thursday that a total of 184 complaints were lodged against the paper.
Editors at the student journal insisted they did nothing wrong. They also staged protests, saying the “indecent” label violated academic freedom.
Publications deemed “indecent” must be sealed in a wrapper with a warning, and people who publish or distribute such items without doing so may be fined up to HK$400,000 (US$51,152; €37,795) and jailed for one year.
The Bible should also be “wrapped in a plastic bag with a warning notice before it is sold to people over 18 years old,” the anonymous Web site said.
So far no major Christian groups have publicly responded to the complaints against the Bible.
Hong Kong’s Christian community, largely Protestant and Roman Catholic, is estimated at about 660,000, including 105,000 Filipino Catholics, many of whom work as domestic helpers in this wealthy city.
The tree is known by its fruit. It is clear for all now to see what kind of fruit it is. It is a hard, unplesant, bitter fruit indeed, nothing like the Bread of Life.
His straits times interview today versus what he said on his alleged email, totally different! LIAR!! So does that mean pastor derek is a hoomosexual? Same league what. haha.
Pastor Derek Hong should be arrested for uttering such seditious words demanding that all Singapore follow the line of his god. His words are extremely offensive and threatening to non-Christians.
ISD should rightly investigate into this in order to ascertain the truth. This thing cannot be allowed to go on with full freedom of a pastor saying one thing in public but doing another in private. The religious harmony and stability of Singapore is at state.
My family and I, who are non-Christians, take offence to what the Church of Our Savior and its leaders and members have been doing or trying to do, if their alleged involvement in the AWARE saga is true, in trying to impose their own bigoted belief upon all of us, Singaporeans.
The Singapore Government should not sit idly by to allow more damages to be done by this group of misguided people to destabilise Singapore’s status quo of multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural harmony and peaceful existence.
@judas
I wouldn’t be surprised if he is. Didn’t you hear about in the US, some of those who spoke the most vehemently against homosexuals were caught having sex with men? Read in the study somewhere…homophobia is related to a suppressed sexual desire for the same sex.
Pastor Heng, Dr Thio, and all the holy brothers and sisters of COOS and similar churches, have you not sinned?
If you go through the entire Bible, and apply its words literally, you would probably find more sins for yourselves than all the gays of this world.
This is a call to Take Notice.
We have to be Aware of these Christian Rights Groups, which may have been influenced by those American Evangelist Churches.
The American Evangelist Movements in recent years has managed to politicized the Gay-Marriage and Abortion issues in the US, to the extent that the entire US population is deeply divided politically during those Bush years. As we all know, the US economy is in dire state and they have much more pressing ssues than this kinda divisive issue.
To be fair, many Christians are Decent and Moderate People.
But they too, have to be careful, not to buy in to these radical ideas of some of the Right-Leaning churches, with are affiliated with those American Evangelist Churches.
During the 2004 American Election, Bush garnered the majority votes, by stirring up the issues of Gay-Marriage and Abortion. He uses his Christian background and Neo-Conservative Republican influence, to garnered these votes, especially amongst the Southern States in US, they called those geographical areas “the Bible Belt”.
The strategy was devised by his political strategist, Karl Rove. It is very effective because he beat John Kerry, from the State of Massachussets, which legalised Gay-Marriage.
After winning the election, Bush and his Republican cronies find it appropriate, as Christian Rights, to launch an attack, on Iraq, using flimsy excuses such as “Weapons of Mass Destructions”.
We should be very very careful of the those American Evangelical Movements, because they are influencing many many churches worldwide. And they are extremist who will not hesitate to bulldoze their way to get rid of all elements not consistent with their beliefs, weather its gays, abortions or muslims, etc.
It is very obvious that some leaders of our local churches are already subcribed to the ideologies of these American Evangelist Movements, calling all Christians TO DRAW A LINE.
History has taught us well, The Crusades War bring untold suffering to millions of Europeans. That’s why the Europeans are much more sensitve and wary of the Fundamentalist Christian’s Movement, unlike the Americans, whom did not go through the same suffering experiences and did not learn the lessons.
Prejudices and hatred will only bring more trouble and extremism to the world, with the proliferation of more terrorist group.
We should all strive to be Moderate, Balanced and Free of Prejudices, regardless of whichever religion we have.
May God Bless Us All, regardless of Race, Religion, Sex, Sexual Preferences or any other superficial differences. Beneath our skin, we are all human.
[...] you have access to a copy, read what the good pastor said in today’s Straits Times. 2 and 2 apparently do not have to add up. Heck, compare it and the “outing” of the Group of 9 + 1 to his church’s [...]
Please allow my humble opinion.
Based on recent saga de aware,
I feel sad and worried about our system.
To be frank, many years ago, a highly senior executive friend of mine told me to take up a particular religion for my own sake. I scratched my head. He said this after learning that I am a atheist. Over the years, I worked in several companies.
The impression I gathered is many england speaking citizens who are well educated and working in white collar jobs are of a certain religion. When I go for interviews, I never have mentioned about any religion in order to avoid being discriminated. To play safe. I also advise readers here to do the same. In the west, religion is not a must-reveal information when applying a job. Likewise, gender, age and sexual orientation among others. What I feel is that asians are not as discrimination-sensitive in these aspects or are simply more subservient or cooperative or simply oblivious.
I even heard complaints from a friend’s son that in university, his lecturer is not as helpful or avoids helping students of non-his-religion.
while religion can be good, the mere mortals may not know the real teachings of that religion and practise the wrong way behaving discriminatorily at times or even subconsciously.
There is an impact on society – when this group grows into the majority, the rest are disadvantaged or discrimination is more likely. Afterall, humans are not saints or gods or demigods or spiritually super very highly enlightened.
The recent issues made me concerned about the people behind organizations in our society. To them, their motives may be good. To them, they are doing the right things. But we are mere mortals. Humans are not perfect and being too religious is not good. Not good for the religion as a whole in a land of multi-religions. They need to strike a good balance. Else….
I like to ask readers, which religion , as a collective super group of sub-religions, is the dominating religion in s’pore in terms of wealth, power, education, elitism, etc ?
I hope, my sincerely comments can be accepted. Else, please advise what is wrong. Cheers
I reckon he speak with forked tongue. And ain’t lying breaking one of the 10 commandments? All their acts will convert me to their church – NOT! These fanatical right wing fundamentalists need to hold up a mirror and reflect carefully; they seem to forget that we live in a multicultural, SECULAR society! Rather than forming their own society, they need to seriously consider forming their own country and don’t let anyone who ain’t Christian enter.
The evangelising tentacles of christianity are everywhere, right from evangelising teachers, doctors, nurses, senior university students, etc. This compulsion to expand this “club membership” is just amazing. Just drop by the University of Singapore campus at Kent Ridge and you will see that the Varsity Christian Fellowship has a whole big noticeboard to itself.
Christianity itself is not a threat but the unyielding belief by some its followers that IT IS THE ONLY SALVATION for EVERYONE makes it frightening – this wish to impose “we know what is good for you” on others. Its inability to accept the diversities of life is a reason for alarm.
This AWARE incident is a good wake up call for the non-Christians and hopefully the government will be able to put this militant form of Christianity in check.
It is true that the Sexual Education program for schools guidelines does not promote homo erotic activity.
But the sad fact is that the old Aware’s actions do not bear this out in that by biasing their teaching material positively eg. reflecting the ‘goodness’ of lesbian activity by their first film, students will only see they want to see. Thus they will ignore the forest and enjoy only the trees and in their young immature minds be influenced to unconsciously embrace the same values depicted. But to me, female-female marriage is less evil, and may even be a positive in time to come.
But the day will really be sad for the world when the program is taken to the next step by schools ‘unintentionally’ causing males to accept male-male activities, specifically anal copulation, to be not an evil thing. Then there will be widespread depravity at it’s worst.
It would be good if the new Aware can take a leaf from the cigarette industry and use their methods like that of putting out discouraging messages and graphics, in their teaching material, rather than the biasingly encouragingly or accomodating message done by the old Aware.
Bravo new Aware!

Brilliant post. In my view, this is exactly what is happening. We need to be careful of religious bigots of whatever stripe or colour and this AWARE saga is a warning of the clear and present danger to our society.
folks,
There will be no end to this talking. It’s fire adding more fire. Everyone has their right of opinion. Period. Look at it in the postive light: isn’t this democracy? In our words, let’s make love and not war. Let’s reconcile and not divide. Whatever we do or say, let us love thy neighbour. This is what Christ said and this is the universal truth.
Homosexuality, prostitution, drunkeness, adultery, etc… all existed during biblical times and it still do today. There is nothing new under the sun. Jesus did not condemn the adulterer when he met one. In fact, Jesus taught her thru’ life lessons what she was doing wrong and her eyes were opened and she repented.
Jesus did not come to seek for the good people; indeed there are aplenty out there who claim to be good. He came to seek the sinners, of which I am one of them. He came to restore their lives so that each and everyone can live a full abdundant life. That’s the story of Jesus.
Please, let us not draw our sword and create borders. This is not love thy neighbour at all. If we say we love God, we will give what is best to our neighbour. Period.
“.. liars are included in the same breath as homosexual offenders.”
Yes, liars are included as well. Amen.
Pastor Hong,
There are quite a few places in the world where you can wage your spiritual warfare – and draw your line with people who do not share all your views but have exactly the same intolerant and sanctimonious attitude as you. Please don’t scurry back to Singapore then…

Archbishop Desmond Tutu of Anglican Church in South Africa who won the Nobel Peace Price in 1994 , has this to say.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4 on 18 November 2007, Tutu accused the church of being obsessed with homosexuality and declared: “If God, as they say, is homophobic, I wouldn’t worship that God.”[77]
Dear readers, if you have the time please read the chapter on church reform in this ,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Tutu
The COOS is under the Anglican archdiose in Singapore.
Isn’t what Archbishop Desmond Tutu said in 2007 exactly what is happening in COOS which Josie LAu belongs to . The COOS church is obsessed with homosexuality.
We should ask the X tians , is GOD homophobic ??
And to add salt to the wound of COOS, the Anglican Church itself is not in agreement in its ranks about the homosexual issue. Progressive churches in the west like the Anglican Church of England, The North American Anglican church and the South African Anglican Church have a more tolerant view on homosexulality . Read more at
http://schools-wikipedia.org/wp/r/Rowan_Williams.htm
refer to chapter on homosexuality
Just look at how people of responsibility in the Anglican Church in the west frame their arguments with sensible reason, fair logic and thinking. and humility unlike The new aware Exco curt and closed argument type of mentality.
Why the difference you may ask , because in the west like UK and USA , the media will ask very pertinent questions to as to how you defend your views about homosexuality.
If they sense a persoanl view involve they will rip your defence to shreds and force you to say it is purely a persoanl view and should not be applied to society in general.
Society is secular and should so.
Why is it so hard for the New Excos of AWARE with members of COOS to admit to themselves that the old EXCO of Aware did carry out their duties with an awareness that Singapore is a secular place with people from a multi religious background and and even bigger majority of people who are secular in their outlook, they may have a religious view but they keep it to themselves knowing that society in general have a market place of pluralitic views.
What happened inside Aware office a day before the EGM:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvLMdcs_XN0
guarantee funny!
I’m a christian – but You have to understand the urgency of the matter. Ive been educated abroad and have seen how prevalent homosexuality is on the media, in the education system, where it is accepted as mainstream. Gay are clamouring for the right to get married and have adopted children. Would you want your children to be thinking along the lines that homosexuality is OK and an alternative lifestyle. Bottomline – you choose what you you want to adopt in your life but you don’t eventually want your kids to be exposed to the option of an unnatural lifestyle – where its so obviously wrong in the eyes of God but the world has made it to look right and acceptable. There has to be some yardsticks. Someone could one day argue that its actually Ok for women to have two husbands, and make a compelling argument, would that make a wrong right?
How do we know when action is wrong in the eyes of God – there are consequences – as in AIDS, another generation of children growing up with warped perceptions of family life. Homosexuality – science has proven that its is not linked to genetics, but the inclination (so what you are exposed to you take on).
What happens when aware consists of a huge majority who belongs to a particular religion? I am not against any religion. But AWARE existence should be to protect singapore women OF ALL RELIGIOUS BElieves or Women who are Atheists. Aware should operate in Secular mode.
Religious people can and are welcomed to form another ‘aware’ but be clear of your stand.
Religion is a sensitive thing. There will be endless ENDLESS debates about different religions. There will be no common answer for everyone. A religious fanatic will feel so strongly about his or her religion that to him/her, that is the truth, that is the only true religion or god or creator.
What is the effect or potential friction such mindsets can trigger? I urge religious people not to mix Secular with non-Secular. Stick to your own lovely religion and dont make a mess.
Can people understand what i am preaching?
regards
Pork And Pork some more
This latest statement by Derek Hong is so contradictory to what he was practising all along. His private actions are so different from what he is saying, if he continues this way he will get confused and his mind will be fused up.
I am not a Christian, however I respect their teachings and love amongst their members. I believe we have to learn to love each individual as they are otherwise life loses its meaning..
If these people (Dr Thio, their church, Josie & team) continues to preach their beliefs and cause separation amongst us, they will pay a high price for their actions. We just have to wait and see.
And a simple advice to the Thios, Josies & allies – Lifestyle is a Choice, Learn to Respect it !
“God doesn’t grade sins, all sin is sin. So homosexuality is like other wrongdoings like idolators, thiefs, drunkards, liars are included in the same breath as homosexual offenders.”
so Pastor Hong is god in disguise? or he is also sinner according to the bible? “all sin is sin”…so the pastor is included in the same breath also with idolators, thiefs, drunkards, liars?…sounds uncomfortably familiar with the last…
May,
If I do not want my children to be “sexually deviant”, I will teach them that. I will not go take over a feminist NGO, and in the process cause social/religious tension in my country.
“Don’t judge others, lest you be judged!”
Thiestic Religion are inherently exclusive in nature. In a multi-religious
environment their respective leaderships must display wisdom n exercise
restraint in words n deeds.if they r too pedantic in pushing their beliefs
beyond their respective flock society will suffer n thus being members
of the society will suffer too. It is not possible for perfect equal treatment
and fairness . It is true the dominant group whether religious or racial or
educational background will discriminate in favour of their own group
whether in job opportunities, social opportunies sometimes deliberately
and often subconsciously. What is important in Singapore context is
we should ensure as far as possible not to elect to position of power
persons of covert bigoted convictions
otherwise down the road this society will unravel . I have witness
covert discrimination on basis of race n religion by seemingly
‘decent n respected’ indivduals in positions of power. So no
matter how ‘talented’ and individual is , if he/she has bigoted convictions
these individual should not be allowed power that can make policies
that affect society as a whole. They can have their views n convictions
as long as they act out within their own limited n exclusive society.
society will unravel.
May,
may i know which SCIENCE are you talking about? the pseudo-scientific NARTH that is linked to the Christian Right? Or journals published in Christianity Today?
lol. don’t make me laugh.
what’s so wrong with teaching kids that its okay to accept gays? you honestly think that if you keep seeing gay people kiss, you’ll want to kiss someone of your gender and sleep with her??? HAHAHAH. omg. what a joke.
so your proposal is to not allow such kids to be exposed, so that if they were gay, they’ll think its wrong and be in conflict with their identity forever; and for the rest of straight people to be given social mandate to laugh at the gays – creating a generation of josie laus and alan chins and thios??
HAHAHAHAHAH. omg, you are freaking brilliant!!! hear hear!!
and pls larh, ur AIDS argumt… go check up ur facts.
and the analogy between Singapore and USA is flawed. in usa, gay ppl are fighting for marriage. in singapore, gay ppl are fighting for DECRIMINALISATION. know what that means? means not treated as a thief, or murderer, and get thrown into jail when they do things in the privacy of their bedroom.
i don’t even know why i waste so much time typing this. im not gay. i have gay frens. i live and let live.
pls, stop foisting ur christian ideology on the rest of us. *roll eyes*
When love becomes hurt. This is exactly what will happen, when you deny your child the rightful access he or she needs. Adults hold authoritarian views with hindsight experience to speak from. HOWEVER! that is purely 1 directional!
Try recalling the days when you were younger, when your parents cane you and shouts at you not to cry, but all you wanted was to express your pain. BUT NO! you jus weren’t’ allowed to. Repressed and depressed. Resigning to fate.
Now, a homo kid goes thru exactly the same drill, jus worst. Why? – because there’s a whole world of ppl whom they can’t turn to. What happens next? you get an introverted child or a depressed adult. Is that called happiness? or gift to the child? legacy of your parenthood?
Be thankful, for there are ppl who dare risk being the lightening rod for the greater good of your children. Lastly, anything that is negative is sowing the seed of hate. Don’t let your children hate you!
Dear May,
you repeatedly mentioned that certain things are “wrong in the eyes of God”.
May we know whose God, which God, what God and where God?
I strongly feel the ISD should step in.
It has all the “classic” ingredients for a case for detention without trial.
(1) HIDDEN AGENDA
(2) INFILTRATION OF UNSUPECTING BODY
(3) ORGANISATION AND MOBILISATION OF SYPHATHISERS/SUPPORTERS
(4) STOKING OF RACIAL/RELIGIOUS TENSIONS
(5) CLAIM THAT “GOD” SUPPORTS THEIR EFFORTS
May on Fri, 1st May 2009 7:04 pm
Dear May
May I offer my sympathies to you, such a LITERATED person from abroad. How educated are you? I thought people educated abroad have open minds but yours are closed. Did you go to Timbuktu for your overseas education?
DEREK hONG SHOULOD BE REMOVE FROM HIS role as a pastor as he instigate the christian to conquor AWARE>
Does AWARE HAVE lot of money in their acount maybe there is uterior motive for the team to go in to secure ‘”PENUT” Allowance from AWARe.
Why don’t the PAstor of COOO KUO set up another organisation to champion again gay and homesexual issue.
Its good to admit to have committed a mistake compared to not letting people know that you have which could give wrong impression to the faithfuls that a pastor must be perfect.
For we are all not saints / gods / demigods but in fact mere mortals in our own ways.
May all achieve Spiritual enlightenment and may wisdom lead us to live a life of decency and honesty and eradicate Greed for Power, Money , and influence. Having Education of the secular kind does not necessarily mean a person is spiritually enlightened.
Secular and non-secular must never mix. I thought this is a 101?
May people of this tiny land not be discriminated based on religion, not that there is evidence to show there is already.
May people learn and comprehend that
between 2 people of different religious believes,
person A would strongly and even totally believe that his/her religion is superior or the only truth or more true than all others.
The irony is, person B ditto’s. See the dilema? So, have we ever wondered why debates on Religion has never come to a conclusion? The key word is Believe. And that is not a dirty word but a good word as it can bring people together and they can come together, for the progress of society.
Together, we can not just come together, we can overcome. We shall overcome.
This is a Fact.
We may be Heterosexual by choice,
Gays too are Homo by choice.
They are like us, Humans.
they too have sexual needs like heterosexuals.
As long as they are honestly gay and wants to be gay, we should be gay about them being gay since we are Free man having the right to choose our destiny.
We may not like someone’s thinking or preference but they too are humans, have parents who give birth to them, have feelings, needs and desires. Like us. Inside their body is a heart with blood pumping through it. Its warm like ours.
Lets agree to disagree but not discriminate in a multicultural society and world. Discrimination is so tied to the medieval era. Humans must progress spiritually and open our minds and be able to handle the truth of our world of diversity, so as to achieve.
Speaking of lines that God should never allow people to cross, I think there’s a fine line between the sort of irrational hatred that these fundie Christians are spouting, and a totally dehumanised society which enforces totalitarian extremist religious views on its fellow human beings:

Dear Hatemonger Hong,
The bible says its ok to offer my daughters to strange men for their sexual amusement (Lot), ok for my daughters to get me drunk and seduce me (Noah), ok for me to stone my daughters if they disobeyed me…
Your picking out of selected versus to support your hate-mongering against a minority group simply does not wash.
Unless you hold regular stonings (and other abhorrent activities) in your church perhaps?
