For those who are NOT familiar with Malaysian and Singaporean history, DAP is the left-wing Malaysian branch of the PAP when it contested seats while Singapore was in the Malaysian federation.

And for those not familiar with current Malaysian politics and have not read the Malaysiakini itself, don't let its self proclaimed image as an independent and unbiased online newspaper fool you. Malaysiakini is an opposition newspaper and regards its DAP biased propoganda as the absolute truth and will not run articles and editorials critical of the DAP, but does not exclude critizing its allies the PKR and the PAS. If Malaysiakini were to be scrutinized as other alternative news sources in the West, many of its more senationalist claims pertaining to racism and corruption would expose its own lack of journalistic integrity with regards to verifiable evidence and its own political biasedness. An incident that readily comes to mind is the infamous Nude Squat Gate, where photos of an apparently naked Chinese woman held in police custody was disseminated by the DAP in the Chinese dailies and Malaysiakini as evidence of RACIAL and sexual abuse by the police. When investigated throughly, it was discovered that the woman was actually a Malay, and the MP in question (Theresa Kok) tried to cover her blunder by saying that the dissemination of the photo was actually to highlight police abuse, which is a seperate issue and NOT the DAP's goal to begin with, no matter how they want to whitewash the issue.

Does this pattern of behaviour sound familar to you?

In short, Malaysiakini could be a template for the Straits Times when it becomes the opposition in Singapore. With regards to the DAP, the foreign press always fail to mention that, unlike the PAP, it does not have a single Malay MP and its ideology is that of socialist democracy.

To Outsider.

"Singapore does not need a Singaporekini because there really is no need for one. Singapore Press Holdings’ journalists are top-notch and their reports on Malaysia are sought even by Malaysians who seek alternative media and - of course - the truth. Singapore may be ruled by one political party with an iron fist at times but what’s wrong with that as long as that party is not only seen as efficient, clean and incorruptible but also, in truth, is efficient and incorruptible. I am a Malaysian and though many in Malaysia may welcome Anwar Ibrahim’s Pakatan Rakyat as the ruling party one day the jury will be out for a very long time on whether that party is right for us because of the entrenched culture of corruption in Malaysia. So to those Singaporeans weary of PAP rule, I say, stop griping for change; things could be much worse!"

Dear Outsider,

You have declared yourself that you are a Malaysian. That means you have not lived the life of an ordinary Singapore in Singapore. Then how can you even speak for Singaporeans and try to advice true blue Singaporeans what to do? Remember, the grass is always greener on the other side?

From what you say, I think your perception about SPH being "top-notch" is either misguided or totally skewed. It also clearly shows the shallowness of your knowledge and how ignorant you can be.

And by the way, corruption can be anywhere in the world, not necessary in Malaysia alone. Wherever there is greed, there is corruption. It is either done openly or in private, legally or illegally, acceptable or unacceptable. And corruption does not only cover monetary gains. It covers a very wide spectrum of human desires, including also the "Greed for Power and Control" over the lives of everybody. That is the worst of all corruptions!

There are better names than Singaporekini.... why do Singaporeans need to follow behind Malaysia. If they are to invent a new media, I believe they would be able to do better than the one set up by Malaysia. Have you forgotten, Singapore has most of the times done better in many ways than Malaysia.

there can be no "singaporekini" because 30 years of "Speak Mandarin" campaigning have left Singaporeans unable and uninterested to speak what should be their frakkin' NATIONAL LANGUAGE (sic)
